When you Install a Vehicle Gateway on your vehicle, you can view and update the associated asset information from your Samsara dashboard. Available VG settings are dependent on the accessory options installed and the features enabled for your fleet.
Gateway settings vary based on the features enabled for your fleet, the accessory options installed, and your region. The following tables define the settings available to view or edit:

Name |
The name of the associated vehicle. When you first add a gateway, the Samsara dashboard identifies it by serial number. For ease of management and identification, use descriptive names for your gateways. |

Serial number associated with the gateway. This field is not editable. |
Vehicle Type |
Vehicle type (Automatic, Passenger, Truck, Bus) used to determine applicable speed limits. To apply Speed Limits for Commercial Vehicles for trucks and buses, you must also enter a Max Laden Weight. |

Static Driver Assignment |
Driver manually assigned to the vehicle. To assign a driver from the Samsara dashboard, see Manually Assign a Driver to a Vehicle. |
Odometer |
Estimated distance traveled by the vehicle (mi or km) as calculated by GPS from the VG. You can only edit the value if the value is not provided by the vehicle engine control unit (ECU) (see Odometer Management for Vehicle Gateways). |
Engine hours |
Engine hours reading from the vehicle. This value is typically supplied by the Engine Control Module (ECM) but can also display configurable Synthetic Engine Hours (SEH). SEHs provide a backup input to estimate engine hours for when engine hours can’t be read based on when the engine is running. |
Vehicle height |
The height of the vehicle measured from the ground to its tallest point. |

Alternate carrier settings if different from your default settings. If these fields are blank, the default carrier settings apply. |
Harsh Event Detection Settings |
Vehicle type to use for Harsh Event Detection (Off, Automatic, Passenger Car, Light Truck, Heavy Duty). |
Camera Recording |
The Privacy Mode setting for the vehicle (see Privacy Mode Camera Recording). |
Audio Recording |
Audio recording setting for the vehicle (Enabled, Disabled, Default to organization setting (On or Off)). |
Vehicle Regulation Mode |
Select the vehicle regulation status for CMV vehicles (Regulated, Unregulated (non-CMV)). For more information, see Regulated and Unregulated Vehicles (non-CMV). |
Voice Coaching |
The vehicle in-cab voice coaching setting (see In-Cab Alerts and Voice Coaching). |
Event Detection Safety Inbox |
Setting to surface safety events to the Safety Inbox. |
Event Detection Audio Alerts |
Setting to play in-cab audio alerts and Nudges, if supported, for the detection type. |
In-Cab Speed Limit Alerts |
Setting to play in-cab audio alerts for speeding events (see also Driver Speeding and Speed Limits). |

Use the options below to manage your Vehicle Gateways (VGs) based on your operational needs—whether you're updating settings, transferring devices, or removing vehicles from your dashboard.

Edit gateway settings: Update settings for one or more vehicles:

Delete a vehicle and its data: To permanently remove a vehicle and erase all historical data, see Delete a Vehicle.

To view or edit the settings for an individual gateway:

Select the Settings icon (
) at the bottom of your Fleet menu to view dashboard settings.

From within Devices, select Devices > Gateways.

Locate the gateway from the list. To narrow the scope of the results, Search for the gateway or filter the options by Tags or Attributes.

On the device row, click the more actions ( ••• ) menu > Settings.

Edit the device settings and Save to confirm the changes.
