Install an AG26/AG46P on Powered Equipment

When you install an AG26/46P on powered equipment, the powered asset cable harness utilizes the power interface from the asset. After successful installation and connection to the equipment aux inputs (for engine hours), the AG provides real time data to the Samsara dashboard. If power is not available from the asset, the AG will operate off of the internal battery in power-saving mode. The asset gateway can function on an internal battery for up to three months.

To install the AG26/46P on powered equipment:

Activate the device in the Samsara dashboard if you have not already done so.

Log in to the Samsara dashboard at the regional Samsara cloud URL assigned to your organization (such as cloud.samsara.com, cloud.ca.samsara.com, or cloud.eu.samsara.com), or go to cloud.samsara.com/activate. You can also follow the link in your Order Shipped email.
Choose a location for installation depending on asset type and use case.

Tip

Consider the following best practices when selecting a mounting location for the AG:
- Ensure that the device and cables are not at risk of being damaged by moving parts. If possible, test the device in the intended mounting location before final installation.
- Verify that the cable has adequate clearance to reach both the AG and the electrical connection.
- For the most reliable connectivity and performance:
  
  Mount the AG as close to the trailer edge as possible.
  
  Ensure that at least one side of the AG is unobstructed—facing the sky or ground, for example.
  
  Position the AG vertically. Avoid mounting it with the back facing directly upward or downward, such as lying flat on its back or front.
- Avoid installing the device within metallic structures, such as inside a metal trailer. This may interfere with cellular and GPS connectivity.
Attach the mounting plate using adhesive and the four provided self-tapping screws. Secure the AG to the mounting plate using the four provided flat-end screws.
Plug the cable into the AG and twist to secure.
Connect the other end of the cable to power using one of the following options:
- Use the CBL-AG-A9PIN, CBL-AG-ACT9, or CBL-AG-ACT14 cables. Connect the cable end to the CAN bus tied to the ECU.
- Use the CBL-AG-APWR cable connection to draw full power from the equipment battery when the equipment is running. This cable switches to the AG26/46P's own internal battery when the activation signal is off.
  
  Warning
  
  Do not modify the CBL-AG-APWR cable unless explicitly instructed by Samsara to do so. Modification can cause the AG to remain continuously powered which may drain the asset battery.
  1. Connect the red Power wire to the continuous 12-30 VDC power source (for example a battery positive terminal).
  2. Connect the black Ground wire to the ground (for example a negative battery terminal).
  3. Connect the yellow Ignition wire to the switched power source or any 6-30 VDC signal on the equipment. If the yellow wire is too short, extend it using the accessory wire.
    
    When the ignition is off, the relay prevents vehicle power drain.
  4. Configure an Auxiliary Input in the gateway settings to track engine hours.
The LED on the asset gateway illuminates when activated.
(Optional) Use the provided zip ties to ensure that the cable does not obstruct activity.
Verify successful connection in the Samsara dashboard (Overview > Assets > Equipment).

Note

If you observe a cable error when you install the AG with the installer app, disconnect and reconnect the cable to the AG. Ensure the cable is correctly aligned with the 7-way connector and securely locked onto the asset gateway.
