This installation guide provides step-by-step instructions for connecting and mounting the Samsara Asset Gateway (CBL-AG-BCT14) to powered equipment. The guide is intended for fleet technicians and installers and outlines the standard installation process, including optional guidance for hazardous location setups. Following these instructions ensures optimal device performance, GPS and cellular connectivity, and a secure installation.

Perform the following workflow to activate and install the Asset Gateway with the CBL-AG-BCT14 cable.

If you have not already done so, activate the device in the Samsara dashboard using one of the following methods:

Activate your device with the Samsara Fleet App (see Streamline Hardware Installation with the Samsara Fleet App). You can also confirm cable compatibility with your vehicle by scanning or manually entering the VIN for the vehicle.

Locate the diagnostic port, typically behind or below the driver dashboard.
For assistance locating the port, consult your equipment manual or dealership.

Remove the port from the back of the panel and connect the Samsara main diagnostic connector, twisting to lock until it clicks.
Ensure all cables are clear of pedals, steering linkages, and other moving parts.

Reinstall the unconnected port into its original location in the vehicle.
Verify once again that all cables are safely routed away from moving components.

Assemble the washer onto the connector housing and secure it with the nut when mounting to a plate or panel.

Connect the cable to the Asset Gateway. For more information, see Install AG52/AG53 on Powered Equipment.

Mount the Asset Gateway in a location that allows for cable clearance and satellite visibility.
Tip
Avoid enclosed metal environments like trailers, as these may block cellular and GPS signals.

Standard installation

Hazardous location — Use the mounting plate and cover included in the hazardous location accessory kit.

Attach the mounting plate using the provided self-drilling screws.

With the cable connected, assemble the Asset Gateway and cover, and secure them with the included machine screws.
Warning
Explosion hazard. Do not connect or disconnect the device while power is on. Only perform this action when the circuit is de-energized and the area is confirmed to be free of ignitable vapors or gases.

Verify the installation by checking the connection in the Samsara dashboard.
A green LED indicates a successful connection.

Do not install hardware while the vehicle is unsecured or while the vehicle is turned on unless instructed to turn on the vehicle by the installation guide. Do not install or adjust hardware while driving or operating the vehicle. Do not install this hardware in a location that could interfere with the driver’s visibility or operation of vehicle controls or near airbag panels or within the working range of an airbag.
Do not install hardware while the vehicle is turned on unless instructed to turn on the vehicle by the installation guide. Failure to follow installation instructions may cause serious physical injury, damage to the vehicle or the hardware, and void vehicle or other third party product warranties.
Batteries in the hardware may have a shorter life span if not used in accordance with instructions. Do not short circuit, crush, disassemble, heat above 140°F (60°C), incinerate, or expose the battery or its contents to water. Do not remove the battery from the hardware to recharge or for any other reason, including disposal. Do not solder directly to the battery cell. Do not use if battery appears damaged.
This product includes capacitors and batteries which may present a potential fire, explosion, electric shock, or burn hazard. Do not touch or come into close proximity to any capacitors within this hardware.
Keep this hardware between -40°F to 140°F (-40°C and 60°C) externally powered, -4°F to 140°F (-20°C to 60°C) discharging on battery, 32°F to 113°F (0ºC to 45ºC) charging. Failure to keep this hardware in the specified temperature range may result in safety risks.
Failure to follow mounting instructions may create risk of physical injury or property damage from falling objects. If mounting the hardware to a building wall, check for wiring or plumbing before drilling any holes.
