Install the Asset Gateway (AG) on Powered Equipment (Dual Inputs)

Requires one of the following licenses:

CBL-AG-BEQP with AG52 or AG53

Install the AG on powered equipment using the CBL-AG-BEQP cable to connect the gateway to asset power and monitor up to two auxiliary inputs. This setup enables real-time equipment tracking and supports key-switched power with digital input monitoring.

To connect the AG to powered equipment and enable dual-input monitoring, use the following workflow:

  1. Activate the device in the Samsara dashboard if you have not already done so.

    Log in to the Samsara dashboard at the regional Samsara cloud URL assigned to your organization (such as cloud.samsara.com, cloud.ca.samsara.com, or cloud.eu.samsara.com), or go to cloud.samsara.com/activate. You can also follow the link in your Order Shipped email.

  2. Turn off the equipment power.

  3. Select the desired mounting location.

    Tip

    Consider the following best practices when selecting a mounting location for the AG:

    • Ensure that the device and cables are not at risk of being damaged by moving parts. If possible, test the device in the intended mounting location before final installation.

    • Verify that the cable has adequate clearance to reach both the AG and the electrical connection.

    • For the most reliable connectivity and performance:

      • Mount the AG as close to the trailer edge as possible.

      • Ensure that at least one side of the AG is unobstructed—facing the sky or ground, for example.

      • Position the AG vertically. Avoid mounting it with the back facing directly upward or downward, such as lying flat on its back or front.

    • Avoid installing the device within metallic structures, such as inside a metal trailer. This may interfere with cellular and GPS connectivity.

  4. To mount your AG, follow the corresponding installation instructions for the AG mounting hole type:

    1. Determine your installation type:

      • Standard installation: Follow the steps to install using the mounting bracket.

      • Hazardous location installation: Follow the steps to install using the protective cover; the mounting bracket is not required.

    2. Standard installation: Attach the mounting bracket onto the mounting surface:

      1. Drill pilot holes using an 11/16 inch drill bit.

      2. If using alternate screws, ensure they do not exceed the size specifications.

      3. To prevent damage to the mounting tabs, tighten screws to a maximum torque of 1.4 Nm (12.4 lbf-in).

      4. Choose one of the following mounting methods:

        • Self-drilling screws: Use the provided #8 self-drilling screws (8-18 x 0.75).

        • Machine screws: Drill through-holes and secure the bracket using bracket and secure it using the provided 8-18 x 0.75 machine screws, washers, and lock nuts.

    3. Plug the cable into the AG and twist to lock.

    4. Mount the AG based on your installation type:

      Caution

      To prevent damage to the mounting tabs, tighten screws to a maximum torque of 1.4 Nm (12.4 lbf-in). If using your own screws, ensure they are not larger than the size specified below.

      Mount the AG directly to the bracket.

      First install the protective cover onto the AG, then mount the AG using the cover.

    1. Attach the mounting bracket to the mounting surface using one of the following methods:

      Caution

      To prevent damage to the mounting tabs, tighten screws to a maximum torque of 1.4 Nm (12.4 lbf-in). If using your own screws, ensure they are not larger than the size specified below.

      • Self-drilling screws: Use the provided #6 self-drilling screws.

      • Machine screws: Drill through-holes for the mounting bracket and secure it using the provided 6-32 machine screws, washers, and lock nuts.

    2. Plug the cable into the AG and twist to lock.

      Mount the AG directly to the bracket.

  5. Connect the wires on the other end of the cable to the equipment using the following pinout as a guide. Cap any unused wires.

    Using a multimeter, verify a ground point such as a metal stud or bolt that makes direct contact to the metal chassis.

    Connect to a key-switched power source, such as an hour meter or, for internal combustion engines, an oil pressure switch.

    For hazardous installations: Wire the included 2A fuses between cable and power source.

    6.png CAN Lo (green) / CAN Hi (yellow)

    Connect to CAN-enabled equipment for automated engine data and diagnostics, if supported by the asset.

  6. Turn on equipment power.

  7. (Optional) Use the provided zip ties to ensure that the cable does not obstruct activity.

  8. Complete the AG52/AG53 Device Setup.

  9. Verify successful connection in the Samsara dashboard (Overview > Assets > Equipment).
