After drivers submit Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIRs) using the Samsara Driver App, any defects that have not been addressed by the mechanic are listed as unresolved in the Defects report. Mechanics can resolve a defect in a DVIR as they complete work on the vehicle.
While defects are a part of each DVIR, they are not a requirement, and the DVIR status (Safe, Unsafe, Resolved) is entirely separate from defects. This means that mechanics can resolve defects without resolving an unsafe DVIR status, and they can resolve the unsafe DVIR status without resolving defects.
To view and resolve defects for each vehicle, perform the following workflow:
From the Samsara dashboard , select Maintenance () > DVIR.
Hover over an asset and choose Last DVIR.
Under Resolve Defects, select one or more defects to mark as resolved.
(Optional) You can + Add mechanic note to provide additional details on defects.
When all defects are marked as resolved, the signature of the mechanic will display in the report. If a defect remains unresolved, it will automatically carry over to the next DVIR made for the same vehicle.
