When you review video in the Samsara dashboard—either through the video retrieval process or while reviewing a safety event—video data and metadata graphs display vehicle-reported data synchronized with video footage so you can correlate vehicle behavior with what displays in the video at the same moment. These graphs are available wherever you review video, including the Trip Timeline and Safety Inbox, and display only data reported by the vehicle.
Metadata graphs plot vehicle-reported data over time and remain synchronized with video playback. They provide additional context by showing vehicle behavior alongside the video to support review and investigation.
You can adjust how vehicle data is displayed in the metadata graphs to focus on the information and time range relevant to your review:
-
Data display: By default, graphs display predefined presets that surface commonly reviewed vehicle data. When additional or more specific vehicle behavior needs to be reviewed, you can add custom graphs using other available data points reported by the vehicle.
-
Time range: For videos longer than 10 seconds, you can adjust the time range directly from the metadata graphs to focus on a specific moment. You can return to the full time range using the undo icon (
) below the graphs.
Presets group commonly reviewed vehicle-reported data into predefined graph views to support investigation of driving behavior and vehicle system activity during the selected time range. Presets are system-defined and appear based on the diagnostics reported by the vehicle and the context in which the video is reviewed.
Available presets vary based on vehicle diagnostics and supported systems. Depending on what diagnostics the vehicle reports, presets may include:
-
Default: Displays commonly reviewed vehicle data, such as speed and pedal-related activity, to provide a general view of vehicle behavior during the selected time range.
-
Driver Input: Displays driver-controlled inputs, such as steering wheel position, turn signals, and vehicle gear, to review driver actions during the event.
-
Cruise Control: Displays cruise control–related diagnostics and, when available, forward vehicle information to review cruise control behavior.
-
ABS & ASR: Displays braking and stability system diagnostics to review anti-lock braking and traction control activity.
-
Emergency Braking: Displays emergency braking system diagnostics to review automatic braking behavior, when supported.
-
Lane Departure: Displays lane departure–related diagnostics to review lane departure warning system activity, when supported.
You can use custom graphs (select add ( ) > Custom) to display additional vehicle-reported data points when you want to review specific diagnostics. Each custom graph supports up to two diagnostics selected from the available dropdowns, and you can add additional custom graphs (select add (
) below the graph) as needed. Available options depend on what diagnostics the vehicle reports for the selected time period.
Metadata graphs display only vehicle-reported diagnostics available for the selected video.
-
Presets and custom graph options vary by vehicle make, model, and supported systems.
-
If a vehicle does not report a specific diagnostic, it is not shown in presets or available for custom graphs.
