Event-based recording limits dash cam footage to short video segments tied to detected safety incidents. This helps you minimize data collection to only that which is automatically detected as a Safety Event. Instead of recording continuously, your camera overwrites video every three minutes unless a safety event occurs and stores these short video segments for the duration of your video storage. This feature supports privacy-sensitive fleets while maintaining access to coaching and exoneration footage.
Event-based recording is compatible with other key dash cam features:
-
Camera-based driver assigment methods remain operational
-
Trip Stills continue uploading at the same frequency
-
Privacy Mode can be toggled as usual
-
Dash Cam and Panic Button uploads still function as expected
-
Engine State and Parking Mode control recording behavior, though only off-trip crashes are stored
Only safety events detected by the camera will be saved. These include:
-
Harsh driving events such as braking, acceleration, turning, or crashes
-
AI-detected behaviors including rolling stops, tailgating, mobile usage, and distracted driving
-
Speeding events as configured by in-cab alert settings
Note
Some clips may not appear in the Safety Inbox due to a variety of filters such high volume caps or In-Cab Nudges™ (Alerts).
Video segments are saved according to your configured video storage limits. When Event-Based Recording is enabled, the dash cam stores video in three-minute segments triggered by safety events rather than recording continuously. For example, a CM34 device with 2K resolution enabled can store up to 34 hours of High Resolution Video (HRV) and 120 hours of Secondary Extended Video (SEV). These storage limits apply to the total number of safety event clips retained on the device. Once this limit is reached, older footage is automatically overwritten to make space for new clips.
Note
Enabling event-based recording does not delete existing footage. Previously recorded video remains accessible until your storage limits are reached.
