Assets Summary

The Assets Summary (Overview () > Assets) displays lists of current and historical assets in your organization.

You can filter each list using the search or by applying Tags, Attributes, Trailer Type (if applicable) or by Gateway (paired or unpaired). There are multiple lists for the following types of assets, depending on what asset types you have in your organization:

Vehicles: Powered vehicles in your fleet(s), such as a van, truck, or tractor unit.
Trailers: Unpowered vehicles towed by powered vehicles, such as dry-vans or flatbed trailers.

Assets with the trailer asset type are selectable within the Samsara Driver App, are included in tractor and trailer pairings, and utilization is calculated based on motion.

Dependent on what you organization considers a trailer, you can assign the trailer asset type through the more actions ( ••• ) menu of an asset listed in Unpowered or Uncategorized.
Equipment: Powered assets and heavy equipment.
- Examples of powered assets include: scissor lifts, light towers, or generators.
- Examples of heavy equipment include: forklifts, excavators, and dozers.
Assets with the equipment asset type do not display within the Samsara Driver App, are not included in ELD logs, and the utilization is calculated based on engine hours. For more information on asset utilization, see Utilization Report.

Dependent on what your organization considers equipment, you can assign the equipment asset type through the more actions ( ••• ) menu of an asset listed in Trailers or Uncategorized.
Unpowered: Unpowered assets such as roll offs, containers, or water tanks.
Uncategorized: Assets not yet connected to a gateway and have not been powered on.

You can also select the more actions ( ••• ) menu of an asset to perform other actions based on the type of asset, such as edit asset or vehicle details in Settings, Pair Asset, Deactivate Gateway, convert to an unpowered asset or trailer, or Assign Asset Type.

To edit details such as the license plate number, VIN, make, year, or model of a vehicle, select the vehicle more actions ( ••• ) menu > Settings, then make any necessary changes.

The Assets Summary includes the following information for an asset, dependent on the asset type:

Name	All assets	Name of the asset.
Location	All assets	Last known location of the asset.
Last Trip	Vehicles, Trailers, Equipment	Last time the asset was moved.
Status	Vehicles, Trailers	Connection status of the asset gateway.
Cable status	Equipment	Confirms if the cable is receiving power from any source, engine or battery (ON, OFF).
Current Fuel Level	Vehicles, Trailers	Amount of fuel remaining in the vehicle or trailer, as a percentage.
Asset Serial	Equipment, Unpowered	Serial number for the powered or unpowered asset.
Battery	Trailers, Equipment, Unpowered	Battery level status (Ok, Low)
Current Driver	Vehicles	Driver currently signed into the vehicle.
License Plate	Vehicles, Trailers	License plate number of the vehicle.
Created On	Trailers	The date the asset gateway was added to the Samsara dashboard. If the trailer has no asset gateway, this is the date when the trailer was created through the CSV or the API.
Device Type	Uncategorized	Type of device associated with the uncategorized asset.
Tags	All assets	Segments assets into groups. You can create and assign tags.
Make	Vehicles	Brand of the vehicle.
Model	Vehicles	Name of the vehicle product.
Year	Vehicles	Model year or generation of the vehicle model.
Vin	Vehicles	Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
Analog Capture Setup	Vehicles, Trailers, Equipment, Unpowered	Indicates how the Camera Connector captures footage from a third-party camera (Ignition On, Reverse Only).
