To track driver use of vehicles without the need to sign in to the Samsara Driver App, you can use Driver ID Tokens. The Driver ID Token is a wearable key fob with a unique ID for each driver. When you assign a Driver ID Token to a driver, the Vehicle Gateway (VG) automatically associates the driver with the vehicle movement.

Driver ID Tokens are intended to associate vehicle activity with a driver. Tokens are not intended to track or log Hours of Service (HOS), location, or behavior data.
The token range is 30ft and may associate with other vehicles until movement is detected. The driver must wear or carry the token while driving a vehicle for the token to associate properly with the vehicle.
To use a Driver ID Token, you activate the token from the Samsara dashboard and associate the token with a driver. You can later manage token assignment and monitor the device health in the dashboard. To activate and manage your Driver ID Tokens:

Activate the Driver ID Token in the Samsara dashboard.
Log into the Samsara dashboard or go to https://cloud.samsara.com/activate. You can also follow the link in your

Modify the driver profile settings to assign the token to a driver. For more information about driver profile settings or to manage multiple driver account settings, see Manage Driver Accounts.

To verify successful activation and to monitor the battery or connection status of your Driver ID Tokens, navigate to Reports (
) > Gateway Health > Accessories.
