With Samsara, drivers can use an ID Card Reader to sign into their vehicles. To prevent drivers from forgetting to sign in before a trip begins, you can enable Samsara dash cams to play an audio reminder in the cab. The alert plays after the Vehicle Gateway (VG) and dash cam powers on. The driver will hear the alert to "please sign in" in one-minute increments until one of the following events occurs:

The driver users the ID card to sign in.

The VG detects vehicle motion OR the dash cam plays the max number of on-trip reminders, depending on your ID card assignment settings.
Enabling reminders improves accuracy of trip assignments and safety data and reduces the need for manual driver assignment.
You can configure the behavior for all vehicles in your fleet or you can customize it only certain vehicles. Individual vehicle settings for this feature are located within the In-Cab Alert settings when you configure Safety Settings for Individual Vehicles. To configure reminders for ID card usage for your entire fleet:

Ensure your drivers have ID Cards before changing driver reminder settings.

Select the Settings icon (
) at the bottom of your Fleet menu to view dashboard settings. -
Select Driver Assignment.

Enable ID Card Assignment.

Set the Assignment Timeout period. This is the amount of time that the driver will remain signed in after the end of a trip.

To provide in-cab alerts that prompt the drivers to sign in, confirm a successful sign-in, and remind drivers to sign in if they have not done so, enable Sign-In Audio Reminders. If this is not enabled, drivers will not be prompted to sign in or hear success messages.

Set the condition for when Reminders end if a driver does not sign in.

Select When a trip starts to suppress reminders while the vehicle is in motion.

Select After X reminders following the start of a trip to continue reminders once the vehicle is in motion.
Warning
When enabled, alerts continue until a driver has signed in. Carefully consider whether this behavior is desired before enabling this option.
