Dash cam video storage capacity and settings are dependent on the dash cam model and peripheral accessories installed in your vehicle. When you add additional accessories, the storage allocation redistributes accordingly and the total video storage capacity decreases. For example, if you Enable Audio Recording or if you use the Camera Connector for third-party camera integration ( standard, HD), you reduce the storage allocation for video footage. By default, dash cams utilize the Optimize for Quality setting for dash cam storage.
You can modify the following dash cam settings to customize the allocated storage:
-
High Resolution Video (HRV) Storage: Select a higher capacity type to increase the HRV capacity using lower quality video. Capacity options are Standard (default), Increased, or Extended.
-
Secondary Extended Video (SEV) Storage: Enable this setting to increase the total hours of recording capacity using SEV video. This setting decreases hours of HRV to allow for an increase in hours of lower quality SEV. For example, if you have a CM31 dash cam with no accessories and a Standard storage capacity type, after you enable the SEV Storage settings, the HRV footage capacity reduces from 43 hours to 20 hours and the SEV capacity increases from 104 hours to 323 hours.
