The Samsara AI Dash Cam automatically records and uploads detected safety events to the Samsara dashboard; however, if your vehicle has a CM33 or CM34 Samsara Dash Cam installed, you also have the option to manually record and upload footage of non-emergency events. When you press the button on the dash cam, you can record events that would not be automatically recorded, like adverse weather conditions or completed deliveries, to upload to the Samsara dashboard to provide valuable visual documentation for tracking purposes.
Caution
The dash cam recording button is intended for non-emergency events only and is not intended as a substitute for emergency notification devices such as the Panic Button.
The VG must be in a full power mode to enable dash cam button functionality. The VG operates in full power mode during a trip and up to 3 hrs after a trip is completed (for more information about VG battery modes, see Vehicle Battery Drain and Conservation).
After you press the dash cam recording button, you will hear an audible tone and the LED will flash blue to indicate recording for video retrieval has started. After recording, a 30-second video is uploaded to the Video Library for administrator review.
If the vehicle is on a trip, the footage includes 10 seconds before and 20 seconds after the button is pushed. If the vehicle is not on a trip but still recording, the footage begins when the button is pushed.
These Driver Recorded videos include footage from the following camera views:
-
Road-facing
-
Inward-facing (CM34 only)
