Install the Asset Gateway (AG) for Power from Trailer 7-Way Wiring

CBL-AG-BPWR with AG52 or AG53

Install a powered Asset Gateway (AG) using the CBL-AG-BPWR cable to draw power from the trailer’s 7-way wiring. This setup mounts the AG on the trailer and connects the cable’s wire leads directly to the trailer-side wiring behind the 7-way socket, providing continuous power for GPS location and trailer status reporting.

To enable real-time trailer connectivity through the 7-way connector, use the following workflow.

Activate the device in the Samsara dashboard if you have not already done so.

Log in to the Samsara dashboard at the regional Samsara cloud URL assigned to your organization (such as cloud.samsara.com, cloud.ca.samsara.com, or cloud.eu.samsara.com), or go to cloud.samsara.com/activate. You can also follow the link in your Order Shipped email.

Caution

Before beginning work on the trailer, ensure it is taken out of service and secured with wheel chocks and a glad hand lock.
Select the desired mounting location and clean thoroughly.

Tip

Consider the following best practices when selecting a mounting location for the AG:
- Ensure that the device and cables are not at risk of being damaged by moving parts. If possible, test the device in the intended mounting location before final installation.
- Verify that the cable has adequate clearance to reach both the AG and the electrical connection.
- For the most reliable connectivity and performance:
  
  Mount the AG as close to the trailer edge as possible.
  
  Ensure that at least one side of the AG is unobstructed—facing the sky or ground, for example.
  
  Position the AG vertically. Avoid mounting it with the back facing directly upward or downward, such as lying flat on its back or front.
- Avoid installing the device within metallic structures, such as inside a metal trailer. This may interfere with cellular and GPS connectivity.

To mount your AG, follow the corresponding installation instructions for the AG mounting hole type:

Round mounting holes

To secure the AG, first drill pilot holes using an 11/16-inch drill bit. Then, attach the AG using the two provided #8 self-drilling screws.

Caution

To prevent damage to the mounting tabs, tighten screws to a maximum torque of 1.4 Nm (12.4 lbf-in). If using your own screws, ensure they are not larger than the size specified below.
Plug the cable into the AG and twist to lock.

Oval mounting holes

Attach the mounting bracket to the mounting surface using one of the following methods:

To prevent damage to the mounting tabs, tighten screws to a maximum torque of 1.4 Nm (12.4 lbf-in). If using your own screws, ensure they are not larger than the size specified below.

Self-drilling screws: Use the provided #8 self-drilling screws.
Machine screws: Drill through-holes for the mounting bracket and secure it using the provided 6-32 machine screws, washers, and lock nuts.

Securely mount the AG to the bracket using the two provided machine screws.

Caution

To prevent damage to the mounting tabs, tighten screws to a maximum torque of 1.4 Nm (12.4 lbf-in). If using your own screws, ensure they are not larger than the size specified below.
Plug the cable into the AG and twist to lock.

Run the length of the cable to the 7-way connector and use the zip ties to fasten the cable to the trailer.

Connect the wires on the other end of the cable to the 7-way connector:

Connect the White wire (ground) to negative.
Connect the Brown wire (head/tail lights) to 9-31 VDC power.
Connect the Blue wire (ABS/Constant Power) to 9-31 VDC power.
Cap the unused Green/White wire (Input 0).

Cap any unused wires.
Complete the AG52/AG53 Device Setup.
Manage the trailer from the Samsara dashboard.

Note

If you observe a cable error when you install the AG with the installer app, disconnect and reconnect the cable to the AG. Ensure the cable is correctly aligned with the 7-way connector and securely locked onto the asset gateway.
