Haldex Gen 3—CBL-BEBS-HAL3 and Haldex Gen 4—CBL-BEBS-HAL4
The AG53 Asset Gateway can integrate with Haldex trailer EBS systems to enable advanced braking data and diagnostic insights. This topic outlines the hardware requirements, diagnostic port configuration, and installation steps needed to complete a successful integration. Follow the procedures in order to ensure compatibility and data flow through the CAN Bus (TCAN port).

To collect braking data, the trailer's EBS system must be configured to share telematics over the CAN bus. For Haldex EB+ systems, this includes updating the EBS to up-to-date firmware and setting the CAN Bus (TCAN port) to provide constant power.
The steps below use Jaltest as an example but may also help guide configuration using other diagnostic tools. Contact your Samsara account representative for instructions for other tools.
Note
Samsara does not have access to the diagnostic software required to enable the EBS port. Customers are solely responsible for procuring the necessary diagnostic software and for performing the port enablement themselves or by engaging a qualified install partner.

Launch the Jaltest diagnostic software on your connected device.

Navigate to the Haldex EBS system.
From the main menu, select: TRAILER > TRAILER > HALDEX EB+.

Wait for the system dashboard to load after connection.

Click Parameters to view the available system configurations.

Go to Modify Parameters to access system-level settings.

Enable ISO on CAN bus for diagnostic port communication.

Drill down to: Modify Parameters > Auxiliary Functions and Input Signals > Internal Auxiliary Configuration.

Click ISO ON CAN BUS (ISO ON HCB (TCAN)).

Ensure the setting ISO ON CAN BUS is set to YES.

When done, continue to the next step to Install the AG53 for Integration with Haldex EBS.
For most trailers, you will find the EBS units at the front of the back axle underneath the trailer.
Before you begin, confirm that you have the correct cables for the make and generation of the EBS.
To install the AG53 for a Haldex EBS systems on your trailer, use the following workflow:

Position the trailer for access.
Ensure the underside of the trailer and the EBS ports are fully accessible before starting the install.

Mount the AG to the trailer.

Select the desired mounting location and clean thoroughly.

To mount your AG, follow the corresponding installation instructions for the AG mounting hole type:

To secure the AG, first drill pilot holes using an 11/16-inch drill bit. Then, attach the AG using the two provided #8 self-drilling screws.
Caution
To prevent damage to the mounting tabs, tighten screws to a maximum torque of 1.4 Nm (12.4 lbf-in). If using your own screws, ensure they are not larger than the size specified below.

Plug the cable into the AG and twist to lock.

Attach the mounting bracket to the mounting surface using one of the following methods:

To prevent damage to the mounting tabs, tighten screws to a maximum torque of 1.4 Nm (12.4 lbf-in). If using your own screws, ensure they are not larger than the size specified below.

Self-drilling screws: Use the provided #8 self-drilling screws.

Machine screws: Drill through-holes for the mounting bracket and secure it using the provided 6-32 machine screws, washers, and lock nuts.

Securely mount the AG to the bracket using the two provided machine screws.
Caution
To prevent damage to the mounting tabs, tighten screws to a maximum torque of 1.4 Nm (12.4 lbf-in). If using your own screws, ensure they are not larger than the size specified below.

Plug the cable into the AG and twist to lock.

Connect the Asset Gateway to the EBS.

Use the provided Samsara cable to connect the AG53 to the EBS. Once connected, the AG53 should power on and the LED will light up.

Remove the blanking plug from the DIAG port on the EBS unit.

Use a small tool to press the release tab at the bottom of the connector.

Pull out the blanking cap and ensure the 4-pin connector remains clean.

Connect the Samsara EBS cable to the available DIAG port until you hear a distinct click.
Note
For Haldex Gen 4, use the TCAN port. If the TCAN port is already in use, a splitter cable is required for parallel installation. Record the details of any existing connected system for support purposes.

Check CAN bus termination if another device is already connected (e.g., Soft Docking or Info Center).

Power on the EBS system.
-
Locate the yellow 120Ω terminator cap next to the 14-pin AG connector.

Remove the cap and measure resistance at the connector:

If the resistance is 120Ω, leave the setup as-is.
-
If the resistance is 60Ω, replace the yellow terminator with a gray sealing cap.

Activate the AG53 using the Samsara Fleet App.
As part of the activation process, you will upload an asset photo of the trailer’s load plate.

Manually power on the AG53 if no trailer power is available.
Press the button on the AG53 to trigger a cloud connection. If trailer power is available, confirm activation through the dashboard.

Verify the AG53 is powered and charging.
In the Samsara dashboard, navigate to the asset overview. Confirm that the power source is listed as External via cable connection and that the battery is charging.

Check for braking data in the dashboard.
Go to the Braking Performance Report under Maintenance. After a brake event, the status will shift from No Data to Gathering Data.
Note
To trigger braking data collection sooner, take the trailer on a short trip.
