Use a diagnostic tool such as Jaltest—or a vendor-specific alternative—to configure the AUX3 input and verify that the EBS telematics (CAN bus) port is active. For Knorr-Bremse systems, ensure the EBS firmware is up-to-date and that AUX3 is configured to supply constant power. The steps below use Jaltest as an example but may also help guide configuration using other diagnostic tools.
Note
Samsara does not have access to the diagnostic software required to enable the EBS port. Customers are solely responsible for procuring the necessary diagnostic software and for performing the port enablement themselves or by engaging a qualified install partner.
The instructions provided within this guide regarding EBS port enablement are provided “as-is” as a helpful courtesy and for illustrative purposes only. They are subject to change without notice by the third-party tool provider. Always consult the third-party diagnostics/telematics port provider directly for the most current instructions, technical support, and any troubleshooting related to their tool.
-
Open the Jaltest diagnostic software.
-
Navigate to the Knorr-Bremse EBS system.
From the main menu, go to: TRAILER > TRAILER > Knorr-Bremse TEBS Gen2.
-
Select the control unit connection mode.
Choose Connection with the control unit (Trailer without TRM module).
-
Open the diagnostic dashboard.
After connecting, the dashboard will appear.
-
Select Parameters to continue.
-
Expand the system settings menu.
Go to the Modify Parameters section to view configurable settings.
-
Access the AUXIO3 signal configuration.
Navigate to: Modify Parameters > Auxiliary Functions and Input Signals > Main Modulator > Auxiliary Input/Output Status. Select Auxiliary Signal (AUXIO3).
-
Configure AUXIO3 with the correct values.
Apply the following settings:
-
Signal Type: Output Signal
-
Function: Supply
-
Control Device: Control Unit
-
Signal Voltage: 24V

Proceed to Install the AG53 for Integration with Knorr-Bremse.
For most trailers, you will find the EBS units at the front of the back axle underneath the trailer.
Before you begin, confirm that you have the correct cable for the make and generation of the EBS.
Note
Knorr-Bremse G2.2 and G2 use different, non-interchangeable cables—using the wrong one will lead to failure.
To install the AG53 for a Knorr-Bremse EBS systems on your dry-van trailer, use the following workflow:
-
Position the trailer for access.
Ensure the underside of the trailer and the EBS ports are fully accessible before starting the install.
-
Mount the AG to the trailer.
-
Select the desired mounting location and clean thoroughly.
-
Attach the mounting bracket to the mounting surface using one of the following methods:
Caution
To prevent damage to the mounting tabs, tighten screws to a maximum torque of 1.4 Nm (12.4 lbf-in). If using your own screws, ensure they are not larger than the size specified below.
-
Self-drilling screws: Use the provided #8 self-drilling screws.
-
Machine screws: Drill through-holes for the mounting bracket and secure it using the provided 6-32 machine screws, washers, and lock nuts.
-
-
Securely mount the AG to the bracket using the two provided machine screws.
Caution
To prevent damage to the mounting tabs, tighten screws to a maximum torque of 1.4 Nm (12.4 lbf-in). If using your own screws, ensure they are not larger than the size specified below.
-
Plug the cable into the AG and twist to lock.
-
-
Connect the Asset Gateway to the EBS.
Use the provided Samsara cable to connect the AG53 to the EBS. If all telematics ports are in use, install a splitter. Once connected, the AG53 should power on and the LED will light up.
-
Activate the AG53 using the Samsara Fleet App.
As part of the activation process, you will upload a photo of the trailer’s load plate as part of the asset profile.
-
Manually power on the AG53 if no trailer power is available.
Press the button on the AG53 to trigger a cloud connection. If trailer power is available, confirm activation through the dashboard.
-
Verify the AG53 is powered and charging.
In the Samsara dashboard, navigate to the asset overview. Confirm that the power source is listed as “External via cable connection” and that the battery is charging.
-
Check for braking data in the dashboard.
Go to the Braking Performance Report under Maintenance. After a brake event, the status will shift from No Data to Gathering Data.
Note
To trigger braking data collection sooner, take the trailer on a short trip.
