Use the following instructions to install the Engine Immobilizer under the steering wheel area or behind the dashboard. This is the most common placement for the Engine Immobilizer. For other placements, you may need to adjust the workflow to suit your needs.
Important
Device is not waterproof. Install only in a dry location away from sources of water and condensation.
-
Locate the vehicle's starter line—typically near the starter solenoid within the steering column.
Use a multimeter to confirm the starter line shows 0V when the ignition is off, accessory, or on, and 12V or 24V only when the key is in the start position.
-
Cut the starter wire and connect it to the Engine Immobilizer interrupt wires.
Splice using the included butt splices. Crimp and apply heat to shrink for secure connections.
-
Mount the Engine Immobilizer using the included self-tapping screws.
Choose a secure, hidden location on a rigid surface to reduce vibration.
-
Connect the Engine Immobilizer to the Vehicle Gateway (VG).
Plug the Engine Immobilizer's USB cable into the VG's USB port. If the VG isn’t installed yet, follow its installation guide first.
-
Verify the installation.
After installation, immediately verify proper setup using the Samsara dashboard, which requires permission to access the vehicle's information. Improper setup may result in false tamper alerts and unintended immobilization.
-
Configure the relay and immobilization settings from the security settings.
-
To manually control the Engine Immobilizer and test functionality, Test Engine Immobilizer Activation.
-
To confirm the tamper detector is properly installed, check the tamper status on the vehicle page. After the removable component is reinstalled, there should be no tampering indication.
