After you install an Engine Immobilizer and configure immobilizer settings, you can remotely immobilize or remobilize a vehicle from the Samsara dashboard. Use the vehicle actions menu to immobilize or remobilize the entire vehicle, or use the Immobilizer section on the vehicle page to control individual relays.
To immobilize or remobilize a vehicle, your user role must include the Immobilization Manager permission. You must also have permission to edit gateways under Essentials. For details on roles and permissions, see Custom Roles.
Note
The Vehicle Gateway connected to the Engine Immobilizer must be online to receive immobilize and remobilize commands. If the gateway is offline, the dashboard queues the command and applies it when the gateway returns online. When the relay switches, you might hear a click from the device.
If the gateway is offline, wait for it to reconnect instead of repeatedly selecting immobilize or remobilize controls.
Use this method when you want to immobilize or remobilize the vehicle without selecting a specific relay.
-
Open a vehicle from Fleet > Overview (or select the vehicle on the Fleet Overview map).
-
Click the more actions ( ••• ) menu for the vehicle.
-
Select Disable Vehicle.
A confirmation dialog displays. Review the message and click Disable to confirm.
After you confirm, the starter line is disabled and the vehicle cannot start until you remobilize it.
-
To remobilize the vehicle, open the vehicle actions menu and select Enable Vehicle.
If the vehicle does not remobilize, confirm that an account with Immobilization Manager permission (and gateway edit permission) sent the command, verify that the Vehicle Gateway is online, then retry. For additional troubleshooting, see Engine Immobilizer Troubleshooting.
Use this method when you need to immobilize or remobilize a specific relay (Relay 1, Relay 2, or custom relay names configured in immobilizer settings).
-
Open a vehicle from Fleet > Overview (or select the vehicle on the Fleet Overview map).
-
In the Immobilizer section, select Immobilize for the relay you want to disable.
A confirmation dialog may display before the relay is disabled. Confirm the action to continue.
-
To remobilize the relay, select Remobilize for that relay in the Immobilizer section.
