Before you can use an Engine Immobilizer and monitor activity from the Samsara dashboard, you must install the hardware. See the instructions for your hardware version:
After you install the Engine Immobilizer hardware, you can remotely disable a vehicle in your fleet directly from the Samsara dashboard. If tamper detection sensors are installed and alerts configured, you can receive an alert on your dashboard if someone attempts to unplug the gateway. In the event of theft or unauthorized use, you can disable the vehicle remotely. The Engine Immobilizer works by interrupting the ignition’s starter wire, preventing the vehicle from starting.
The Engine Immobilizer will not stop a vehicle while it is in motion. If you attempt to disable a vehicle while it is in motion—after the vehicle stops and turns off—the Engine Immobilizer will prevent the vehicle from starting back up again.
The default state for the Engine Immobilizer is Enabled. During normal functionality of the device, the vehicle has the following possible states:
-
Disabled: The vehicles starter line is disabled and any attempts to start the vehicle with the key ignition will not work.
-
Enabled: The vehicle will function normally and will not be restricted from starting.
Note
The engine immobilizer requires a USB port. If no ports are available, contact Support.
