After installing the Engine Immobilizer, you can configure immobilizer settings for one or more vehicles in your fleet. When vehicle immobilization is enabled, the immobilizer will only engage if the trigger event occurs while the vehicle is traveling below the speed threshold. If the vehicle is moving above this speed threshold, the immobilizer will activate once the vehicle slows to a speed below the threshold.
-
Select the Settings icon (
) at the bottom of your Fleet menu to view dashboard settings.
-
Select Devices > Configuration > Immobilizer.
-
Set the Immobilization Speed Threshold to regulate immobilization events.
By default, the threshold is set to 6 mph (10 km/h), but you can adjust it to a maximum of 50 mph (80 km/h) as needed.
-
Within Relays settings, configure your relay options:
-
Active Relay Controls: Choose which relays to use for immobilization (Relay 1, Relay 2, or Both).
-
Custom Relays: (Optional) Enable this setting to assign descriptive names to Relay 1 and Relay 2 for easy identification in the Samsara dashboard.
-
-
Configure Mexico Features, if relevant for your region.
-
Enable Samsara to Automatically immobilize vehicles.
-
Read through the safety risk information and click Confirm to agree to the terms.
-
Configure the desired Trigger Events:
-
Tampering event: If a tamper detector is installed, enable this setting to automatically immobilize the vehicle when tampering is detected.
-
Jamming event: Enable this setting to immobilize the vehicle if a jamming event exceeds the configured time threshold. You can set the duration (in minutes) of the GPS signal jamming when the
Jamming eventtrigger is enabled. This option specifies the continuous period the vehicle must be jammed before auto immobilization is triggered. For example, if the duration is set to 15 minutes, the vehicle must be continuously jammed for 15 minutes before Auto Immobilisation is activated. The minimum duration is 5 minutes, the maximum is 60 minutes, and the default value is 10 minutes.
By default, the configuration will apply to all vehicles in your organization. If you want to Edit Individual Vehicles that should be exempt from triggering automatic immobilization, you can add them as Trigger Events Exceptions.
Note
To configure trigger event exceptions for individual vehicles, you must first save the Auto Immobilization configuration.

-
If desired, enable Delayed remobilization to allow the vehicle to automatically remobilize after a set delay following immobilization caused by jamming or tampering-triggered auto immobilisation. When enabled, the system applies a default delay of 45 minutes, though you can adjust this period within the range of 30 minutes to 24 hours. If you choose to disable this feature, the vehicle will remain immobilized until it is manually remobilized by the fleet dispatcher or through an API call.
