The Samsara Vehicle Gateway (VG) automatically detects crashes based on g-force values. However, minor collisions and fender benders are not automatically flagged as crashes because they cause a very low g-force reading. For these events, you can manually indicate a crash event from the video retrieval to enable you to track the event for coaching in your Safety Inbox.
Before you can create a crash event, you must first request the video retrieval of the event. As with all video requests, video retrieval is dependent on camera storage capacity and you must request the footage while it is available for retrieval on the dash cam.
Manually generated crash events display a Max G-force
of 0.00G and are only available for vehicles on a known trip. Manual creation of a crash event is not available for multi-cam videos.
After the video has been retrieved from the dash cam, use the following workflow to manually create a crash event:
-
Navigate to Safety (
) > Video Library > Saved.
-
Locate the video retrieval from the the list or use Search or Tags to narrow the scope of the results.
-
Select the more actions menu ( ... ) > Create Crash Event.
The safety event can take up to six hours to display in your Safety Inbox and safety reports.
