The Samsara Asset Tag (AT11) broadcasts an encrypted device ID to nearby Samsara gateways or mobile devices running a Samsara App, which use the Bluetooth signal to estimate the device’s approximate location. Updates can occur frequently in areas with strong Samsara Network coverage or when Bluetooth and location services are active on a mobile device.
To track a device in a small area, such as a warehouse, storehouse, or yard, you can install a compatible Asset Gateway (AG) with a 12V power supply. Before installation, test the devices in your environment to confirm that the range is adequate.
The asset location displays the last detected location, the accuracy range, and the gateways that detected the device. The map markers provide a visual representation of the historical path of travel:

From the Samsara dashboard, you can monitor the asset location from the asset details (Overview ( ) > Assets > Unpowered).
The translucent blue radius surrounding the center marker represents the approximate area where the AT may be located. The center marker does not necessarily indicate the AT location.

If AT visibility is enabled for your drivers, drivers can search for the AT from the Samsara Driver App map.

The AT11 wirelessly communicates with Samsara's network of gateways by broadcasting an encrypted device ID to other gateways within the Samsara network to estimate the device's approximate location. Using this, Samsara is able to determine where an Asset Tag is located, but other customers will never have access to this information. In addition, third parties at large will never have access to any customer location data. Finally, Device IDs rotate continuously to further address security risks.
Do not use AT11 on anything other than a physical asset. Customers are prohibited from using AT11 to track people. Customers are encouraged to implement role-based access controls in their dashboard for tighter security.
