Use this guide to install the Samsara AT11 Asset Tag.
-
If you have not already done so, activate the device in the Samsara dashboard using one of the following methods:
-
Go to https://cloud.samsara.com/activate or click the link in your

email. -
Activate your AT11 with the Samsara Fleet App (see Streamline Hardware Installation with the Samsara Fleet App).
-
-
Mount your device.
Refer to the AT11 Asset Tag Placement Best Practices and choose your desired installation method:
Zip-tie or hose clamp: Use the slot across the top of the device for a zip tie, lock wire, band, or hose clamp to secure the device to any small or round surfaces.
Screws or bolts: To avoid damaging the device mounting tabs, tighten the screws with a maximum torque of no more than 1.4 Nm (12.4 lbf-in) and no larger than indicated below:
Maximum screw size:
-
Shank diameter: 4.5 mm
-
Head diameter: 11.5 mm
Adhesive: Use the provided VHB adhesive or epoxy for permanent attachment of the device (bottom face). For simplified installation, the adhesive can be used to position the device, complementing other mounting techniques.
-
For best results when tracking your devices with the AT11, observe the following topics and best practices for device placement:
-
Samsara network: The detection rate and location accuracy are affected by the Samsara network density in the AT11 usage area. If possible, test the device for suitability in the desired location prior to purchase.
-
Gateway and AT11 proximity: Ensure that both the AT11 and the associated gateways are positioned for maximum coverage and detection. For the best location accuracy and geofence alert responsiveness, ensure the AT11 is positioned within 100 yards (91 meters) of a VG or AG. To determine the optimal configuration for your placement scenario, use the following table:
Gateway and AT11 Placement
Estimated Range
Recommended Gateway
Clear line of sight
1000 ft (305 m)
AG or VG
Within an enclosure, such as within a metal van, trailer, container, or cabinet
300 ft (91 m)
VG
-
Best placement by asset type: To minimize the risk of theft while ensuring sufficient range, follow these best practices for placement based on your asset type:
Asset Type
Install Tip
Example Photo
Equipment Panels
Mount to an access panel or removable section of an enclosure
Construction Equipment
-
Mount to handles, bars, or round surfaces using a band or hose clamp through the 1/2-inch slot on the top of the AT.
-
Drill holes in the metal plate to mount the AT to the equipment using bolts.
-
If the equipment has a plastic housing or panel and it is not feasible to hide the AT11 inside the equipment, you may be able to use screws to fasten the device to the outside of the equipment.
Tool Cases
-
Install the AT under a foam insert or another part of the case to prevent theft.
-
Installing the AT11 inside metal containers will reduce its observable range. However, typically the device can still be detected by a VG installed in the vehicle carrying the case.
Supplementary Tracker
-
For vehicles that already have a compatible AG or VG installed, attach the AT as a supplementary tracker.
-
Mount the AT directly to the frame in a discreet location.
Containers
-
Apply to any flat surface using VHB, epoxy, or screws to track containers, such as totes, carts, or bins.
-
Choose a location that will not be affected by impact or interfere with operations.
