HW-CL12
The Wireless Link transmitter (HW-CL12) mounts on the trailer and connects to a compatible AHD camera so tractor-trailer fleets can send a rear camera view into the cab without running a long GX-12 cable the full length of the combination. After the transmitter pairs with the cab-mounted Wireless Link receiver (HW-CL11) over the trailer ABS power line, it powers the camera and sends video wirelessly to the receiver for display through the AI Multicam Hub and in-cab monitor. Wireless Link is intended for single trailers only.
Use this guide to install the transmitter, connect power and the camera, and validate the RF link before you permanently mount the unit. Install the first transmitter and receiver on one linked tractor-trailer combination so you can confirm power line communication (PLC) pairing before you roll out additional installs. Pairing cannot be confirmed until both units are installed on the same tractor-trailer pair. For receiver install steps, see Wireless Link Receiver Installation Guide. Evaluate transmitter power methods in this order. Prefer ABS module power when it is available, confirm pairing, and use 7-way power only if ABS is unavailable or pairing fails:

ABS module power (preferred): When the trailer has an accessible ABS 5-pin connector (typically trailers manufactured after 1999, not specialty equipment such as haulers), install with CBL-CL-AABS at the ABS connection.

7-way power: When the ABS connector is unavailable, the ABS cable run is too short, or if ABS module power fails pairing, rework CBL-CL-AABS into flying leads and power from the trailer 7-way ABS/constant circuit.

Non-trailer install: When you are not installing on a standard trailer ABS or 7-way path, rework CBL-CL-AABS into flying leads and connect to a suitable 10–30 V ignition power source and ground.
Before you permanently mount the transmitter, confirm that the receiver is installed and that pairing succeeds using Confirm Wireless Link Pairing. If ABS pairing fails, follow Debug Transmitter ABS Module Power in Troubleshoot the Wireless Link, then switch to the 7-way method if needed.
Gather the following Samsara hardware, tools, and consumables before you install the transmitter.

Use this method when the trailer has an accessible ABS 5-pin connector. Power down the vehicle and keep the trailer stationary before you connect power or route harnesses.
Note
This method is not applicable to specialty equipment such as haulers.

Power down the vehicle and secure the trailer.

Set the parking brake.

Set the trailer brake.

Set wheel chocks.

Disconnect the battery.

(Trailers manufactured after 1999) Identify the ABS connector underneath the trailer and disconnect it.
The connector is usually near the ABS unit in the rear axle region, and on newer trailers it may be inside the ABS module enclosure.

Connect CBL-CL-AABS to the exposed vehicle ABS connectors.
When an Asset Gateway is already installed, connect CBL-CL-AABS in front of the Asset Gateway and join the ABS cable that feeds toward the front of the trailer.

Screw the antenna onto the transmitter.
Hand-tighten the antenna only. Do not use a wrench or other tools.

Connect power and the camera cable to the transmitter.

Connect the GX-12 plug from the camera to the GX-12 receptacle on the transmitter.

Connect the male 2-pin black power connector on CBL-CL-AABS to the female 2-pin black power connector on the transmitter.

Confirm that the receiver is installed, then validate pairing before you mount the transmitter.
Complete Confirm Wireless Link Pairing. When troubleshooting indicates that ABS module power is not viable, stop this method and continue with Install the Transmitter with 7-Way Power. For debug steps, see Troubleshoot the Wireless Link.

Identify a mounting location for the HW-CL12 transmitter. Do not mount yet.
Mount the unit high enough to prevent sustained submersion in water. Prefer a location near the front of the hanging umbilical cable harness. Orient the transmitter toward the left or right side of the trailer, ideally the side closer to the receiver, and keep the antenna clear of overlapping hanging wires.

Route CBL-CL-AABS along the trailer umbilical and secure it with cable ties.
Secure routing so the cable is not damaged when the trailer slide position changes.

After the RF link is established and validated, secure the transmitter with the mounting screws and an impact driver.

Coil and attach any excess cable to a secure, protected attachment point.
Confirm cables are clear of moving parts on the trailer.
Use this method when the ABS connector is unavailable, when CBL-CL-AABS is less than 2 meters from the ABS module, or if ABS module power fails pairing. At distances under 2 meters, the ABS module can introduce enough noise to block PLC pairing. To confirm this issue, follow the steps in Debug Transmitter ABS Module Power in Troubleshoot the Wireless Link. Power down the vehicle and keep the trailer stationary before you rework the harness or open the 7-way housing.
Caution
On Hyundai trailers, the overmolded 7-way design can make this install take longer. Budget additional time and resources.

Power down the vehicle and secure the trailer.

Set the parking brake.

Rework CBL-CL-AABS into a flying-leads cable.
-
Cut the cable at the indicated location on the harness.
-
Strip the cable jacket and wire jackets to expose about 0.2 in (5 mm) of conductor. Discard the ABS 5-pin connector portion of the cable; you will not use it for this method.

Identify the conduit channel near the kingpin and feed the flying leads toward the 7-way housing.
Use fish tape or fishing line when needed, and leave enough slack to push the cable up through the bottom entrance into the 7-way housing.

Open the 7-way housing at the front of the trailer and push the flying leads into the housing.
Reference the 7-way schematic on the vehicle before you change any wiring.

Crimp the fuse holder from the accessory bag onto the red wire.

Identify whether the 7-way accepts ring, spade, or bullet terminals. Select the matching terminals from the accessory bag and crimp them onto the CBL-CL-AABS red wire (power) and black wire (ground).

Connect the black wire (ground) to the negative terminal.
-
Connect the red wire (power) to the blue ABS/constant 10–30 V power terminal.

Screw the antenna onto the transmitter.
Hand-tighten the antenna only. Do not use a wrench or other tools.

Identify a mounting location for the HW-CL12 transmitter near the front of the trailer.
Mount the unit high enough to prevent sustained submersion in water. Orient the antenna toward the left or right side of the trailer, ideally the side closer to the receiver, and keep the antenna clear of overlapping hanging wires.

Route the connectorized end of the reworked CBL-CL-AABS to the transmitter and secure the cable with cable ties.

Connect power and the camera cable to the transmitter.

Connect the GX-12 plug from the camera to the GX-12 receptacle on the transmitter.

Connect the male 2-pin black power connector on CBL-CL-AABS to the female 2-pin black power connector on the transmitter.

Confirm that the receiver is installed, then validate pairing before you permanently mount the transmitter.
Complete Confirm Wireless Link Pairing. If the Link LED does not stay solid green, continue with the 7-way and receiver power debug steps in Troubleshoot the Wireless Link.

Secure the transmitter with the mounting screws and an impact driver, then coil and attach any excess cable to a secure, protected attachment point.
Use this method when you are not powering the transmitter from a trailer ABS module or trailer 7-way connection. Rework CBL-CL-AABS into flying leads and connect to a suitable ignition power source that can support PLC pairing with the receiver on the same power domain.

Power down the vehicle and take applicable safety measures to keep the asset stationary.

Set the parking brake when applicable.

Set the trailer brake when applicable.

Set wheel chocks when applicable.

Disconnect the battery when applicable.

This product includes capacitors, which may present a potential fire, explosion, electric shock, or burn hazard. Do not touch any capacitors within this hardware. Hardware may sustain water damage if the seal is damaged. Do not use if the seal appears damaged.

Do not rely on the product to alert the driver of safety hazards or to prevent collisions. The hardware and associated software may not work as intended depending on road conditions, other vehicles, weather, and other factors.
Keep this hardware between -22°F and 167°F (-30°C and 75°C). Failure to keep this hardware in the specified temperature range may result in safety risks.
If applicable, for vehicles manufactured beginning in late 2019, RP1226 cables/ports should be used (rather than J1939 cables/ports) for all third-party telematics devices.
