Driver HOS logs combine automatically recorded ELD drive time with manual status changes made by the driver. If a driver selects an incorrect vehicle or duty status, if they have misattributed drive time, or if their log is missing a duty status change, you can add a remark or edit the certified HOS log in compliance with FMCSA rules.
All edits must include a note explaining the change and must be re-certified by the driver. This ensures log accuracy when resolving issues like misattributed drive time or incorrect vehicle assignment.
If you enable Drivers Can Edit Certified Log in Customizable HOS Settings, drivers can also Edit an HOS Log when corrections are needed.
Before you edit a driver HOS log, keep the following in mind:
-
Six-Month Editing Window: You can only make edits to certified logs within six months of the original log date.
-
ELD Regulations: Carriers cannot edit automatically recorded ELD drive time. See ELD Mandate on Driver Approvals for full guidance. To correct a misattributed Driving (ELD) status, you can Ignore a Driving Segment instead.
Note
For organizational security reasons, Samsara Support can guide admins on how to edit logs, but cannot make any direct edits to the logs themselves.
To edit the HOS log for a driver:
-
From the Samsara dashboard, navigate to Compliance (
) > Driver HOS.
-
Click the name of the driver whose HOS you want to edit.
You can use Search or apply Tags to filter the list of drivers.
-
Select the log you want to edit from the driver's Hours of Service Report.
You can use the date range filter to locate a specific date.
-
To edit the entire log for the selected day, click Edit above the log chart, or click Manage to the right of an individual segment to edit that segment.
To edit multiple segments at once, click and drag in the log chart to highlight the segments you want to edit.
Note
Per ELD mandate requirements, you can only edit logs after they have been certified by a driver. The Edit and Manage options are unavailable (grayed out) until the driver certifies the logs in their Samsara Driver App.
-
Adjust the Status and Vehicle as necessary to fix an incorrect duty status or vehicle assignment.
Any values you do not want to edit can be left as Unchanged.
-
Enter a brief Remark to explain the edit. You can choose from the suggested remarks or enter your own.
-
Save your edits.
After the correction is saved, you can toggle between Show Pending Edits and Hide Pending Edits to compare between the original and corrected logs. Pending edits are highlighted in yellow and the
Odometervalue are hidden until the driver accepts the changes. -
The driver Reviews Carrier Edits in their Samsara Driver App and either accepts or rejects the edits.
