Important
According to the ELD mandate:
-
Automatic driving time may not otherwise be re-assigned and may never be cumulatively changed.
-
An ELD must not allow automatically recorded driving time to be shortened or the ELD username associated with an ELD record to be edited or reassigned, except under limited circumstances as defined in the ELD mandate.
Refer to section 4.3.2.8.2. Driver Edit Limitations FMCSA and Transport Canada ELD Technical Specifications.
If a Driving (ELD) status is incorrectly assigned—for example, if a driver forgets to sign out and a mechanic moves the vehicle—you can use the Ignore a Driving Segment setting to correct it. This updates the driver’s remaining hours, clears any related HOS violations, and resets the HOS clocks in the Samsara Driver App.
Before you use Ignore Driving Segment, ensure you have correct permissions: you must be a full admin or have a custom role with Essentials > Driver Logs - Ignore enabled.
Important
Ignoring a driving segment will update dashboard reports and API endpoints but does not remove the Driving (ELD) time from the Datafile, emailed logs, or officer-facing views. Inspectors will still see the original drive time, along with the annotation in the Remarks section, and may use it to determine if a violation occurred.
To ignore a Driving (ELD) segment in an HOS log, follow this workflow:
-
From the Samsara dashboard, navigate to Compliance (
) > Driver HOS.
-
Click the name of the driver whose HOS you want to edit.
You can use Search or apply Tags to filter the list of drivers.
-
Select the log you want to edit from the driver's Hours of Service Report.
You can use the date range filter to locate a specific date.
-
Click Manage to the right of the segment that you want to ignore.
Note
Per ELD mandate requirements, you can only edit logs after they have been certified by a driver. The Edit and Manage options are unavailable (grayed out) until the driver certifies the logs in their Samsara Driver App.
-
Enable Ignore Driving Segment to recompute the driver's clocks by treating the segment as Off Duty, On Duty, Personal Conveyance, or Sleeper Berth.
-
Enter a brief Remark to explain the edit. You can choose from the suggested remarks or enter your own.
-
Click Next.
-
Select the correct Status.
-
Save your edits.
After the correction is saved, you can toggle between Show Pending Edits and Hide Pending Edits to compare between the original and corrected logs. Pending edits are highlighted in yellow and the
Odometervalue are hidden until the driver accepts the changes. -
The driver Reviews Carrier Edits in their Samsara Driver App and either accepts or rejects the edits.
After you enable Ignore Driving Segment and the driver accepts the edits, the shift will be annotated and reflect the changes. Drivers can review the edits in the Samsara Driver App as follows:
-
From the Daily Log, the driver taps Review Carrier Edits to see the changes.
-
The driver reviews the edit and the admin remark. If the driver accepts the edit, the HoS clocks reflect the new duty status.
-
During a Roadside Inspection, the edit displays as a remark in the driver log.
