If a driver certifies a log without entering the correct trailer or shipping information, you can help by making updates directly in the Samsara dashboard. These edits are only available after the log has been certified. To avoid missing data, drivers should enter this information in the app at the appropriate time during their shift.
Shipping and trailer ID fields are especially important for Hours of Service (HOS) compliance and trip record accuracy. Drivers can enter these values from the main screen of the Samsara Driver App. If they forget or enter incorrect information, you can make corrections in the dashboard as long as the log is certified.
This workflow is especially useful for fleet admins, dispatchers, and safety managers supporting driver log accuracy across daily operations.
-
Enter Trailer ID at the start of the shift or when taking control of a trailer.
-
Enter Shipping ID (or load number) after picking up a load.
-
Review the HOS logbook screen daily before certification to ensure IDs are accurate.
-
Sign out at the end of each shift to reset IDs carried over in the log.
Note
The HOS logbook and the home screen in the Samsara Driver App are separate but connected. Edits made in one do not always reflect in the other.
-
Drivers select Shipping/Trailer ID from the home screen before starting a trip.
-
These values are saved to the HOS log and visible in the logbook.
-
Drivers can add or remove IDs from the primary screen at any time during the day.
Note
Removing an ID from the primary screen will not remove it from the HOS log.
-
Admins can edit or remove IDs from the HOS log after a driver certifies their log.
-
IDs entered carry over through midnight on the HOS log.
-
When a driver signs out and the session extends past midnight, those IDs are removed from the log moving forward.
You can correct logbook entries from the Samsara dashboard if the driver has already certified the log.
-
Navigate to Compliance > Driver HOS in the Samsara dashboard.
-
Select the driver and the date of the log you need to update.
-
Click Edit next to the Shipping ID or Trailer ID field.
-
Enter the correct value and click the checkmark to save.
Tip
If you don’t see the Edit option, confirm that the driver has already certified the log for that day.
Drivers should remove any incorrect IDs and add any missing ones before certifying their logs. If changes are needed after certification, only an admin can make those edits.
-
Check the logbook daily for accuracy
-
Use the HOS log screen to manage IDs, not just the primary screen
-
Sign in and out properly at the start and end of each shift
