Use this guide to connect an AG52 or AG53 Asset Gateway to a trailer that supports ABS but lacks a 5-pin connection. In such cases, diagnostics can be obtained by modifying the CBL-AG-BPLC cable. This scenario is common with chemical tankers, heavy-duty utility trailers, and older chassis models. For example, many tankers use a junction box that interfaces with all trailer wiring. This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installers to modify the CBL-AG-BPLC cable and collect diagnostics in these specialized applications.
To complete installation you must be assigned a Full Admin role or a custom role with installation permissions.
To install and modify the cable:
-
Unbox the AG and mount it onto the chassis using one of the following methods:
-
Secure it with screws directly into the chassis.
-
Attach it with 3M mounting tape after cleaning the surface with an alcohol swab.
-
-
Prepare the Samsara ABS cable:
-
Cut the Samsara ABS cable near the 5-pin connector and strip the exposed end to access the wires.
-
Identify and prepare the following wires:
-
Cut and discard the RED wire.
-
Strip ½ inch of insulation from the GREEN/WHITE and BLUE/WHITE wires.
-
Use a heat-shrink insulated butt splice to connect the GREEN/WHITE and BLUE/WHITE wires together.
-
Tape the unused wires securely with electrical tape.
-
-
Connect the Samsara ABS cable to the chassis ABS cable:
-
Cut and strip ½ inch of insulation from the BLUE and WHITE wires of the chassis ABS cable.
-
Use a heat-shrink insulated butt splice (recommended) or a sealed junction box with your choice of splices to connect the ABS wires and ground wires to the ABS system:
-
Connect the BLUE wire from the Samsara ABS cable to the BLUE ABS power wire.
-
Connect the WHITE wire from the Samsara ABS cable to the WHITE ABS ground wire.
-
-
Seal all exposed wire connections securely with heat shrink or electrical tape.
-
-
Connect the other end of the Samsara ABS cable to the mounted AG.
-
Secure all cables with zip ties to ensure they do not hang down from the chassis.
-
Press and hold the button on the AG until the green light flashes.
-
Complete the installation using the Samsara Fleet App or the Samsara dashboard:
You will need chassis information including Chassis ID, License Plate, and Asset Gateway Serial Number.
Note
The Asset Gateway Serial Number can be found on the AG device or its packaging.
