In addition to the speed severity levels configured in Speeding Settings, you can also configure Max Speed events to surface speeding over a defined speed limit. These events can be sent to the coaching workflow for review and, if enabled, surfaced in the Speeding Inbox.
Note
After enabling and configuring Max Speed settings, only events generated on or after October 8, 2024, will affect Safety Scores.
Use the following steps to configure Max Speed events to be treated as a safety event in the Samsara dashboard.

Select the Settings icon (
) at the bottom of your Fleet menu to view dashboard settings.

From Fleet, select Safety > Event Detection.

Enable the Max Speed option from the speeding settings.

Define the speed threshold and how long a vehicle must exceed this limit for an event to be recorded.

To display Max Speed events in the Speeding Inbox for review and coaching, enable Send to Safety Inbox.

To route these events directly to the coaching queue without review, enable Automatically Add to Coaching. For details, see Automatically Send Events to Coaching.

Save to apply the changes.
Changes take effect immediately across your fleet but are not retroactive.

To add Max Speed events to the Safety Score Calculation, go to Fleet > Safety > Safety Score.
