One of the following informational banners display in the Audio Recording section of the the camera settings page:

Audio recording is unavailable on this camera

Audio is not detected
. This is displayed for cameras that are capable of recording compatible audio, but are so quiet that the camera can not detect any audio. This may mean the camera is operational only in a quiet area, or it could denote an unknown issue causing audio to be undetectable. -
This camera is using an incompatible codec
. Many cameras use or default to AAC which is incompatible. -
This camera may require an external microphone
. This camera requires an additional piece of physical hardware to record audio.

The Audio Recording toggle on the camera settings page cannot be set.

The Audio Recording field on the Sites Cameras page shows

Even if audio recording was previously enabled for the camera, audio is nevertheless grayed out on the stream view.

Verify the camera specs to make sure audio is supported.
If audio is not supported, you may need to connect an external microphone. See Sites Audio Recording.
If the codec is not supported, you may need to change to a compatible codec in the camera settings.

Verify Audio Recording is enabled in the camera settings. See Sites Audio Recording.

If there is a Video Type configuration on the camera, make sure it’s set to Video and Audio instead of Video Stream only.

Audio appears enabled on the stream view, but no audio is played.
The camera does support audio, but it’s not delivering any audio to be recorded. This could be because audio is low or disabled on the camera.

Check the camera settings to make sure audio is enabled. See Sites Audio Recording.

Go to the camera settings page to look for any message as to why audio isn’t playing. See Sites Audio Recording.

Ensure the camera’s microphone and any additional required hardware is attached and working.

Verify that the camera’s audio output settings are not muted.

Verify the camera settings to make sure a supported codec is enabled. See Sites Audio Recording.

If there is an Audio Input configuration, ensure it’s set to Microphone, not Line In.
