Each Vehicle Gateway (VG) comes with auxiliary inputs that you can use to connect additional devices to your equipment. You can connect up to two auxiliary lines directly to the VG34. To add additional auxiliary ports, connect an Auxiliary Input Hub (ACC-AUX).
After you install auxiliary devices, the information is available nearly instantly in the Samsara dashboard. View the Equipment Report and your Samsara dashboard Fleet Overview ( ) to see how and where your fleet uses the equipment.
For each auxiliary input you want to connect:
-
Remove the heat shrink tubing from the pigtail to expose three wires.
-
Locate the wires for Input 1 and Input 2 using the following key:
-
Input 1 = RED
-
Input 2 = ORANGE
-
Unused wire = BROWN
Note
Default OBD cables key:
-
J1939: Input 1 (RED), Input 2 (ORANGE), Unused wire (BROWN)
-
OBDII: Input 1 (GREEN), Input 2 (YELLOW), Unused wire (BLUE)
-
-
Wire one of these into the circuit of your desired equipment. We recommend wiring to indicator lights, relays, or switches. We recommend using 20-gauge copper wire.
-
Verify the voltage on the input.
When the voltage surpasses 5V, the VG considers the device On. A voltage under 3.3V is considered Off. If the voltage remains off, recheck the pin assignments and that the wires are firmly connected.
-
Complete the setup from the Samsara dashboard. See Configure an Auxiliary Input.
