Each Vehicle Gateway (VG) supports auxiliary inputs for connecting additional devices. Using the CBL-VG-CAUX cable, you can connect up to five auxiliary lines directly to the VG54 or VG55. This setup allows you to daisy chain multiple accessories, such as panic or privacy buttons, while still providing auxiliary inputs for unused lines. Additionally, if needed, you can also install the Auxiliary Input Hub (ACC-AUX) to connect up to eight additional inputs.
The CBL-VG-CAUX cable, compatible with the VG54 and VG55 models, utilizes auxiliary input lines 1 through 5. When using the auxiliary input hub (ACC-CAUX), these inputs are configured to correspond with input lines 6 through 13. The following table specifies the appropriate hardware for each auxiliary input line:

To connect auxiliary inputs to your VG:
-
Connect the Samsara cable to the 8-pin port on the VG.
-
Identify the correct wire color for connecting your equipment to the auxiliary input.
For more information, see Input Cable Mapping.
-
Use a butt splice to connect AUX wires to sensor inputs that you want to monitor.
Use 20-gauge copper wire (recommended).
-
If additional auxiliary inputs are needed, wire the inputs to the Auxiliary Input Hub (ACC-AUX) and connect the hub to the USB port on the VG.
-
Verify the voltage on the input using a voltmeter.
When the voltage surpasses 5V, the VG considers the device On. A voltage under 3.3V is considered Off. If the voltage remains off, recheck the pin assignments and that the wires are firmly connected.
-
Complete the setup from the Samsara dashboard. See Configure an Auxiliary Input.
After you install your auxiliary devices, the information is available nearly instantly in the Samsara dashboard. View the Equipment Report and Fleet Overview to see how and where your fleet uses the equipment.
