Use this guide to install Samsara side and rear cameras and Samsara monitors using either the AI Multicam Hub or the AHD1 Camera Connector.
The number of cameras and monitors that are supported vary by the vehicle camera system:
-
AI Multicam Hub: Up to four cameras and one in-cab monitor
-
AHD1 Camera Connector: One camera and one monitor
Both options use GX12 connectors for reliable power and video connections. This setup is ideal for fleets needing enhanced visibility for safety, compliance, or driver awareness. Cameras can be positioned at the rear, on side mirrors or body panels, and even inside the cab if desired.
Note
While cameras are named for rear or side mounting, they are versatile and can be installed in other locations, such as the front or interior of the vehicle.
The clamp-mounted side camera attaches to a pole or mirror arm using band clamps, providing a clear view down the side of the vehicle to support safer maneuvering and blind-spot reduction. The camera is compatible with the AI Multicam system and the HD Camera Connector.

Two worm gear driven band clamps will be used to mount each camera.
To install the camera:
-
Identify a location on the mirror arm where the camera will be mounted, and clean the surface.
-
If needed, wrap two pieces of self-fusing silicone tape underneath the band clamps to protect the mirror arm. The self-fusing silicone tape will also help the band clamp stay in place when mounted to plastic mirrors.
-
Position the camera under the mounting location and insert the worm-gear band clamps into both slots of the mirror mount. Tighten each clamp evenly.
-
Loosen the two mount screws to allow the camera ball to rotate freely.
-
Attach an extension cable to the camera cable. Route and secure the extension cable with zip ties toward the AI Multicam Hub or AHD1 Camera Connector.
-
Use the Samsara Fleet App to capture an installation image and ensure the horizon is level. Rotate the camera to achieve the desired view, then tighten the screws completely to lock the camera in place.
The surface-mounted side camera attaches directly to a flat surface or body panel, providing views down the side of the vehicle or coverage of interior areas. It is typically used for supplemental side visibility and blind-spot monitoring. The camera is compatible with the AI Multicam system and the HD Camera Connector.

You mount surface-mounted cameras directly into body panels using self-tapping screws and machine screws. There is one additional hole for the camera cable passthrough.
To install the camera:
-
Use the 1.5 mm Hex Key to remove the four screws on the front of the camera and separate the mounting bracket and rubber gasket from the housing and camera ball. Place the screws in a safe location.
-
Identify the mounting location on the body panel. Ensure there is adequate clearance behind the panel for the three self-tapping screws. Place the mounting bracket against the panel and mark the slot locations for the three mounting holes along with the approximate center of the passthrough hole for the camera cable.
-
Drill a ¾” hole at the marked location for the cable passthrough. Then pre-drill three 3/32” holes for the self-tapping screws at the marked slot locations.
-
Place the mounting bracket with the rubber gasket behind it against the truck body and use the 7 mm Socket to install the three self-tapping screws into the pre-drilled holes to secure the bracket.
-
Insert the camera cable through the passthrough hole and install the grommet. Pull the remaining cable through to seat the camera in place within the housing.
-
Reattach the top cover. Push the cover from the rear to fully close the gap between the housings. Leave the screws slightly loose so the camera ball can be rotated and oriented correctly before final tightening.
-
Attach an extension cable to the camera cable.
-
Remove the protective film from the camera lens.
The rear camera provides visibility behind the vehicle, enhancing safety during reversing and monitoring rear traffic. It connects to the AI Multicam Hub or AHD1 Camera Connector via a GX12 connector.
Follow these steps to install the rear camera securely on your vehicle:
-
Identify the optimal mounting location at the rear of the vehicle.
-
Mark the positions for the two M6 mounting holes and the cable passthrough hole.
-
Drill a ¾” hole for the cable passthrough and ¼” holes for the M6 mounting bolts.
-
Attach the camera bracket to the mounting surface using the M6 bolts and washers. Secure with nuts on the rear side.
-
If using a cable passthrough, route the camera cable through the hole and install the grommet into the passthrough and mounting bracket.
-
Attach an extension cable to the camera cable.
The 7” monitor displays live video feeds from the installed cameras and is mounted inside the cab for driver visibility. It connects to the AI Multicam Hub or AHD1 HD Camera Connector.
-
Choose a mounting location that avoids obstructing controls.
-
Attach the fan bracket using screws or VHB tape. Clean the surface before using tape.
-
Route cables through the sunvisor and snap it into place on the monitor.
-
Loosen the locking nut on the sliding bracket. Slide the monitor into the fan mount and rotate the locking nut to secure the monitor in place.
-
Connect the GX12 cable labeled DISPLAY OUT from the AI Multicam Hub.
-
Splice the cabels labeled Display PWR and Display GND from the AI Multicam Hub to the monitor power input. Leave trigger wires unused.
-
Power on the vehicle to check monitor function. Press the monitor button if no video appears.
The monitor includes a ¼”-20 threaded T-bolt that allows it to be attached to a variety of third-party mounting accessories, such as suction-cup bases or adjustable extension arms. The T-bolt is compatible with any mount that accepts ¼”-20 hardware.
The following third-party mounting solutions have been tested and confirmed to fit:
-
RAM Mounts: Part number RAP-B-354U-TRA1 connects the monitor to the RAM “B Size” mounting ecosystem.
-
Tackform: Part number B20T works out of the box with Tackform’s 20 mm mounting ecosystem.
To attach the monitor:
