Overview
The revised Carrier integration was developed with Carrier and interfaces to a Carrier reefer via an officially supported 3rd party access module designed by Carrier to allow consistent 3rd party access and control of the reefer unit.
Our solution is compatible with X4 and Vector 8xxx models.
Carrier Parts Required
The Carrier Data Gateway kit is required for integration with our hardware. Customers can purchase this kit from their local Carrier dealer. The kit reference number is Kit Part Number: 76-02113-00 and should include a Carrier y-split harness, the Carrier Data Gateway, a bracket, and mounting hardware.
Samsara Parts Required
HW-AG26 and one of the following cables:
-
CBL-AG-ARCR-VT for Vector 8xxx models
-
CBL-AG-ARCR-X4 for X4 models
Reefer Installation and Configuration
Installing the Carrier Data Gateway
The Carrier Data Gateway should be ordered in advance from the customers local Carrier dealer and ensure the dealer can install at the location where the customers equipment will be.
Carrier trained technicians should be capable of installing the CDG (Kit Part Number 76-02113-00) on the trailer on-site at the customer’s location. Upon installation of the CDG, these Carrier trained technicians should upgrade the CDG software to version 10.19.01 (or newer) on the trailer reefer control unit and configure the CDG software for the access to a third party gateway (the AG26 in this case). This CDG software upgrade is completed via USB drive.
Installing the AG26 and either Samsara Carrier cable (CBL-AG-ARCR-VT or CBL-AG-ARCR-X4)
Connecting Power and Ground Wires
The two ring terminals (Power and Ground) from the cable should be attached to the bottom of the reefer battery charger box. It is located in the lower left part of the refrigeration unit. These two terminals should draw power directly from the refrigeration unit battery, so that the AG26 is constantly provided with power. This enables real time trailer tracking to occur even when the refrigeration unit is off.
Connecting CAN Hi/Lo
There are two mating connectors (CAN Hi/Lo) on the CBL-AG-ARCR-X4 Cable and the CDG. Both of these connectors are installed as new parts, and they should be connected. See images below. The Samsara cable is on the left with green and yellow wires. The Carrier cable is on the right with blue and white wires.
Connecting SATPWR
The SATPWR connector on the Samsara cables is the connector that has a single orange wire. On X4 models, the Carrier connector is a blank cable end that is part of the refrigeration unit that did not require new part installation.. On Vector 8xxx models, this connector is found below or behind the APX control panel and the SVM. The Data Security Gateway is installed next to the SVM, and is wired to it.
When the APX On/Off Switch in the control panel is in the “On” (up) position, the SATPWR wire will show a non zero voltage. This value is read by the AG26 and is used to detect the Refrigeration Unit is powered up (although the Refrigeration Unit engine does not have to be running, it can stop and start as needed to maintain proper temperature.)
Following installation and reefer configuration, customers will be able to manage their reefer trailers in Samsara with the key reefer integration features outlined in this reefer integration KB article.
