Samsara supports Carrier reefer model X4 and Vector 8xxx integrations to enable consistent third-party access and control of the reefer unit. Samsara interfaces to a Carrier reefer with an officially supported third-party access module designed by Carrier.
Before you install your equipment, verify with your local Carrier dealer that a Carrier Data Gateway (CDG) can be installed on the reefer and that the CDG has the necessary software update to support the Samsara integration. Samsara recommends contacting a local dealer that can install the CDG at the location where your equipment is located.
After you have obtained the required parts, have your Carrier trained technician install the CDG. During installation of the CDG, the Carrier technicians upgrade the CDG software to the correct minimum version or higher based on the APX controller generation (see table) on the trailer reefer control unit and configure the CDG software for the access to AG26. Contact your Carrier dealer upon install to ensure the APX unit has the F12 fuse installed.
Important
Carrier has discontinued new sales of the Carrier Data Gateway (CDG). As a result, the CBL-AG-ARCR-X4 and CBL-AG-ARCR-VT cables intended for use with the CDG are also now end-of-sale.
If you already have the CDG and want to purchase the cables anyway, contact your Samsara Account Representative.
Otherwise, it is recommended to use OEM cloud API (see Integrate with Carrier Lynx) for direct reefer integration. You can also alternatively use a A7WY or APWR cable in place of the Carrier Cable.
To integrate with your Carrier reefer, first obtain the following equipment and parts:
-
Samsara Gateway HW-AG26
-
Samsara cable for your model (see table below)
-
CDG kit which includes:
-
Y-split harness
-
CDG
-
Mounting bracket
-
Mounting hardware
-
Use the table below or contact your local Carrier Dealer to identify the correct installation kit for your Carrier year and model.

After the CDG installation is complete, you can install the AG26. Use the following workflow and images to install the AG26 to your Carrier reefer:
|
|
|
|
-
Attach the two ring terminals, Ground (B) and Power (C) from the CLB-AG-ARCR cable to the bottom of the reefer battery charger box.
The charger box is located in the lower left part of the refrigeration unit. These two terminals draw power directly from the refrigeration unit battery to the AG26 for a constant power supply and to enable real time trailer tracking to occur even when the refrigeration unit is off.
-
Attach the CAN HiLo mating connector (E) from the CBL-AG-ARCR Cable to the CAN HiLo connector on the CDG (F).
-
Connect the SATPWR connector (D) on the Samsara cable to the reefer SATPWR connector.
On Vector 8xxx models, the reefer SATPWR connector is located below or behind the APX control panel and the SVM. The CDG is wired to and next to the SVM. The reefer SATPWR connector on X4 models is a blank cable end that is part of the refrigeration unit. and reads 5 V on a multimeter when the reefer is powered on.
-
Connect the lug cable (A) to the AG26 and twist to lock.
The LED on the AG26 blinks orange while connecting and turns to a solid green light once connected. If the light turns solid orange, ensure you are in an area with good cellular signal. For further troubleshooting tips, refer to the asset gateway troubleshooting guide.
