You can use an address to specify a location of interest and collect useful data about operations at each site. Each address has a customizable geofence. To add a new address:
-
Select the Settings icon () at the bottom of your Fleet menu to view dashboard settings.
-
Select Addresses/Geofences.
-
Select + Add Address.
-
Enter the Name for the location.
-
(Optional) If desired, you can display exact addresses instead of the geofence or address name in reports and on the Fleet Overview. To do this, select the option to Show exact address instead of address name when assets are within this geofence in Overview, Trip History, Activity, Start/Stop Reports.
-
Enter the Address for the location.
Addresses can be either a street address (e.g.123 Real St, Springfield) or a latitude and longitude in decimal format (e.g. 37.818440,-122.478441). Separate Latitude and Longitude coordinates using a comma (do not enter any additional spaces between the values).
-
(Optional) Use the drawing tools above the map to adjust the geofence perimeter or shape.
By default, the geofence boundary is a 250 meter radius from the address. You can use up to 40 vertices to Draw your boundary.
-
(Optional) Select an Address Type:
-
Normal Geofence: Assigns a boundary around the address for a region of interest. You can use the geofence for route tracking as start and stop indicators when entering or exiting the geofence.
-
Yard: Unassigned trips contained within this geofence will be automatically annotated as an unassigned yard move for ELD compliance. These automatic annotations should only be used for ELD exempt personnel, such as mechanics, fuelers, or washers.
ELD subject drivers should always sign in to the Samsara Driver App and log their appropriate duty status. Any trips that occur in the geofence and are assigned to a driver will operate normally and will not receive an annotation.
-
Risk Zone: Used to highlight dangerous locations where thefts or similar incidents often happen. Risk Zones appear as red geofences in the Fleet Overview ( ) Map. To view vehicles in the Risk Zone, select Sort > In Risk Zone. To set a geofence alert, see About Notifications and Alerts.
-
Alerts Only: Only triggers an alert when a vehicle enters or exits a geofence. A geofence designated as Alerts Only will not display on the fleet overview page, or contribute to data in geofence-related reports, such as the Time on Site report.
-
-
(Optional) If you use Tags to organize your fleet, you can also use tags to organize your Addresses.
For example, a towing company may have Parking Lot addresses and Impound Lots addresses. And a shipping company may separate Unloading and Loading addresses. For more information, see Creating and Using Tags.
-
(Optional) To auto-dismiss safety events within the geofence, select the harsh event or policy violation to exclude it from the Safety Event Exclusions menu.
Note
In-cab alerts will still still play within the geofence, but are automatically marked as Dismissed from the Safety Inbox
-
(Optional) Add any descriptive Notes you want to log for the address.
-
Save the address.
On the address line, select Edit to modify the report or Remove to delete the address from your profile. To edit an address, see Manage Addresses in Bulk. If you need to edit an address, the changes can temporarily affect reports such as the Time On Site Report.
