The Activity Report displays information about the activity of vehicles and drivers in your fleet. This report can be helpful to understand asset/driver performance and for retracing asset movement for investigations. To access the Activity Report, navigate to Reports ( ) > Activity > Activity Summary.
Important
Notice about the odometer and distance readings:
-
In April 2021, Samsara made improvements to the Activity Report to incorporate the odometer-based standardized distance metric. The previous version of this report, which relies on GPS for distance and odometer values, is accessible under more actions (…) at the top right of the page. You can refer to this older version to review historical data in the context of reports you may have run in the past.
-
The GPS-based report shows the Starting Odometer as the odometer value at the start of the first trip that ends within the selected timeframe. The Standard Distance version displays the odometer value at the start of the timeframe.
-
Odometer values reported by vehicles can fluctuate. To compensate for outliers, only the standardized distance Activity Report filters out transient, dramatic rises in odometer values. However, if the increased odometer values are sustained over 10 data points, the Activity Report recognizes the readings as valid values.
The Activity Report summarizes the activity of each of your drivers and assets based on data collected from all vehicle gateways and asset gateways. Each row represents an individual driver or asset with summary activity metrics. The Activity Report summary updates every 3-6 hours.
The Activity Report summary enables you to monitor the activities of assets and drivers in your fleet. Select the Asset tab for activity data by vehicle or trailer or the Driver tab to view activity data by driver name.
Tip
You can select an asset to view detailed live activity data in the Activity Report by Asset or the Driver Activity Report.
To view data within a specific time period, such as total mileage for a vehicle in your fleet for a year, you can use the date selector.
To export any of the Activity Reports in a comma separate values (CSV) or XLSX format or to schedule an email report for additional data analysis, click more actions (...) and select the action from the menu.
The following table summarizes the fields available in the Activity Report summary:
Field |
Description |
---|---|
Asset or Driver Name |
Name of the asset or driver. |
Distance |
Total distance traveled by the asset/driver during the selected time frame. If there is an asterisk (*) next to the distance value, this means there was a segment during the selected time period with missing odometer data, and portions of the data was approximated with GPS distance. When this occurs, the distance value may differ from the odometer distance. For more information on odometer and distance readings, see the odometer and distance readings notice. |
Driving Time |
Total asset or driver driving time during the selected time frame. Calculated based on location data reported from the VG or AG and not by engine hours. The drive time in the Activity Report relies on trips, similar to Speeding Reports and other reports within Safety Overview. By default, the Activity Report takes a minimum movement speed of 5 mph into account to determine when a trip starts or ends. The drive time in the Activity Report can differ from the drive time in the Driver Efficiency Report, as the Driver Efficiency Report relies on the engine state reported by the vehicle without considering a minimum speed. |
Stops |
Total number of trip stops in all trips that ended within the selected time frame. A trip begins when your vehicle achieves a speed of at least 5 mph and ends when your vehicle's speed remains below 5 mph for 5 minutes or when your vehicle crosses a state or national border. See Trip History Report for more information on trip stops. |
Start/End Odometer |
(Assets only) Vehicle odometer at the start or end of the selected time frame. For more information on odometer and distance readings, see the odometer and distance readings notice. |
The Activity Report by asset provides a record of movement status changes for a specific asset and minute-by-minute activity updates during asset activity. To view this detailed report, select an asset below the Asset tab in the Activity Report.
The following table describes the fields available in the Activity Report by Asset:
Field |
Description |
---|---|
Time |
Timestamp of the asset activity in the format of |
Status |
Asset activity status:
|
Speed |
Asset speed at the time of the activity. |
Speed Limit |
Speed limit at the asset's location at the time of the activity. |
Latitiude / Longitude |
GPS coordinates of the asset location. |
Odometer |
Vehicle odometer at the time of the activity, calculated from GPS-based distances. For more information on odometer and distance readings, see the odometer and distance readings notice. |
Location |
Vehicle location at the time of the activity. |
The Driver Activity Report provides a detailed activity record of each of your drivers, such as Samsara Driver App usages, ELD compliance updates, and safety events. To view this detailed report, select a driver below the Driver tab in the Activity Report.
The following table describes the fields available in the Driver Activity Report:
Field |
Description |
---|---|
Activity |
Driver activity type. Examples include message received/sent confirmation, vehicle/trailer assignment, safety violation, app status change, DVIR pre/post-trip. |
At |
Date and time of driver activity in format |
Duration |
Total duration of driver activity (expressed as hours, minutes, and seconds, as applicable). |
Distance |
Total distance traveled during the driver activity to the nearest tenth of a mile. For more information on odometer and distance readings, see the odometer and distance readings notice. |
Location |
Driver location at the time of the activity. Addresses available from your Address Book display as the address name. All other addresses display as the nearest address. |
Notes |
Additional notes based on driver activity, such as Walkaround Inspection notes or Status Change remarks. |
