Samsara is built with privacy in mind. In all of our product decisions, we take steps to balance your privacy needs and your business needs.
We take the following steps to maximize protection of privacy across our camera lines:
-
Collect only the data we need to deliver the business benefit which includes things like financial savings from exoneration and accident reduction; nothing more
-
Dash cams typically retain ~20-300+ hours of video footage locally depending on a number of factors and configurations. For more information on dash cam storage capacity, see Dash Cam Storage Capacity. This footage is continuously overwritten in a loop on the device.
-
Dash cam video data is generally only uploaded to a secure, encrypted Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud instance when there is a safety event or a manual request for certain available footage from the dash cam itself.
-
By default, Live Streaming and in-cab audio recording is disabled. When enabled, only users with explicit Live Streaming permissions can initiate live streams of inward and outward cameras and in-cab audio.
-
-
Limited data retention. You can configure the retention period for dash cam image and video data sent to the Samsara cloud based on your internal data retention policies to, for example, 28 days, 30 days, 45 days, or 4 years.
-
Restricted data access. You can add, remove and edit access rights and privileges to ensure that only authorized personnel are able to retrieve, view, and tag dash cam videos and related personal data. You can also view detailed audit logs of Fleet Administrator video access and use.
-
Strong security. Data stored in the Samsara cloud is encrypted at rest. Data in transit from dash cams to the Samsara cloud is encrypted using SSL / 256 bit AES. The AWS Cloud Instance that hosts your Samsara data is ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II certified.
