When you set up alert notifications, you can select any administrative user that has access to view the type of alert.
To add additional recipients who are not administrative users in Samsara, you can also manually define Alert Contacts. For each contact, you can specify the contact name, phone number, and email address.
To manually add an alert contact follow the detailed workflow below:
Select the Settings icon () at the bottom of your Fleet menu to view dashboard settings.
In Links & Sharing, select Alert Contacts.
Select + Add contact at the top of the page.
Enter the First Name, Last Name, Phone, and Email for the alert contact.
For SMS or text alerts, use your international dialing code followed by your phone number.
Example: (UK) 440000000000, (US) 10000000000
Save your changes.
Select Edit to modify an alert contact or Delete to remove the contact.
Proceed to Alert Configuration.
When you create the alert, you can select any default or manually added contact in the contact book. The Contact Book identifies Samsara user accounts by either a thumbnail icon with their photo or with the user's first initial and a randomized color. For manually added contacts, the Contact Book identifies entries by an address book icon.
You can use bulk upload to either add new alert contacts or update contact information of alert recipients. You must be an organizational administrator to bulk upload admins. See Administrative Roles for a description of administrative roles, how to configure them individually, and the specific levels of access that each role receives. To streamline administrator account creation, you can upload the settings for administrators in bulk:
Select the Settings icon ( ) at the bottom of your Fleet menu to view dashboard settings.
In Links & Sharing > Alert Contacts, select more actions (...) > Upload CSV.
Select Sample Template to download a blank template or Contact List to download a CSV to edit your existing admin roles.
Upload a comma-separated values (CSV) file that follows the template guidelines and includes one line for each administrator.
Use the following table as a guide for your CSV upload:
The unique identifier for a contact. This field is not editable on import since it represents an internal identifier. Leave blank to create a new contact.
The first name of the contact
The last name of the contact
The phone number of the contact.
For SMS alerts, use your international dialing code followed by your phone number.
The email address of the contact
Save your file and return to the Alert Contacts page in the Samsara dashboard.
Select More Actions (...) > Upload CSV.
Choose the CSV file from your computer, or drag and drop the CSV file into the window.
Preview to review the contacts.
Confirm to accept the changes.
