After you install, connect, and power on your Site Gateway, you can configure the settings for the Site Gateway.
-
Log in to the Samsara dashboard.
-
Select Devices.
-
Scroll to or search for the device by the existing name or model (for example SG1).
-
Click the more actions menu ( ... ) for the gateway and then select Edit.
-
Enter a descriptive Name for the Site Gateway.
-
Search for your Site Gateway and select Settings in the right menu.
-
Configure the IP address type for the Standalone Ethernet Port (SG1, SG1-G32, and SG1x) or Top Ethernet Port (SG1-G):
-
Dynamically Receive IP Address: (Default) Enable the Site Gateway to request an IP address using DHCP. If you don’t have a DHCP server, you must configure the Site Gateway to use a static IP address.
-
Statically Configure IP Address: Select this option if you prefer to issue the gateway a static IP address (see Configure a Site Gateway to Connect to the Network Using a Static IP Address).
-
-
Configure the IP address type for the 8-Port Switch (SG1, SG1-G32, SG1x only) or Bottom Ethernet Port (SG1-G).
For the SG1-G, the network switch must be PoE capable. If your cameras do not connect to your Site Gateway over the corporate network and instead connect directly or through a network switch, configure the preference for IP address assignment.
-
Dynamically Receive IP Address: (Default) Dynamically assign IP addresses to cameras connected through a network switch.
-
Statically Configure IP Address: Assign static IP addresses to cameras connected through a network switch (see Configure a Site Gateway to Connect to the Network Using a Static IP Address).
-
Operate as Camera Server: If you set up the Sites Gateway to act as a configurable router, select this option to enable the gateway to act as a DHCP server that assigns the IP addresses in the range of 192.168.43.0/24.

Proceed to add cameras in the Samsara dashboard. See the following topics depending on your camera vendors:
By default, the Site Gateway is configured to automatically discover on your network using DHCP. If you don’t have a DHCP server, you must configure the Site Gateway to use a static IP address.
To configure the Site Gateway to use a static IP address:
-
Select Devices.
-
Search for your Site Gateway. You can quickly filter in the search using SG1.
-
Select the more actions menu ( ... ) for the gateway and then select Edit.
-
Configure the static IP address you want the Site Gateway to use to connect to the Internet.
-
Under the Standalone Ethernet Port drop-down, select Statically Configure IP Address.
-
Specify the IP address and associated subnet to use for the Site Gateway.
You must use Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR) notation for the subnet shown above as /yy. The most common configuration for this is a Subnet of 255.255.255.0 = /24.
-
Specify the IP address for the default gateway. The Site Gateway uses this IP address for outbound communication.
-
Specify the IP address for at least one DNS server. The Site Gateway will use the DNS server to resolve domain names.
-
-
Connect the Site Gateway to the Local Camera Network with Static IP.
-
Verify the Site Gateway is plugged into your local camera network under the LAN port.
-
Under the 8-Port Switch drop-down, select Statically Configure IP Address.
-
Specify the IP address and subnet of the switch.
You must use Classless Inter-Domain Routing (CIDR) notation for the subnet shown above as /yy. The most common configuration for this is a subnet of 255.255.255.0 = /24.
-
(Optional) Specify the IP address for the default gateway. The Site Gateway uses this IP address for outbound communication. Local camera networks usually do not require the default gateway, however if you know your network has them available, you can use it in the configuration.
