The Samsara Site Visibility solution is easy and flexible to deploy in to pre-existing or new networks.
-
Before you install a Site Gateway, review the Prerequisites to Install and Configure Site Gateways.
-
Unbox your hardware.
-
Find a suitable location for the Site Gateway in a server room or rack.
Place the Site Gateway near an existing network switch. The Site Gateway does not need to be rack mounted.
-
Connect the Site Gateway to power:
-
Plug the power cord into the Site Gateway.
-
Plug the power plug into a 110-120 VAC power outlet.
-
Power the Site Gateway on by the switch (on the back left of the Gateway).
-
-
Connect the Site Gateway for your corporate network:
-
Plug one end of the ethernet cable into the top ethernet port of the Site Gateway.
-
Plug the other end of the ethernet cable into the network switch that provides Internet over port 443 (TLS).
-
-
Screw on the LTE antennas to the back of the Site Gateway.
-
Flip the Power Switch on the Site Gateway to On.
The color of the first LED on the front of the Site Gateway should turn from red to green.
Verify power and network activity status lights on the front of the Site Gateway:
Note
After the Site Gateway connects to the internet, you may see network activity as it updates the firmware to the latest version. During the update, cameras may be connected to the camera network but cannot be added to the Site.
-
Connect your cameras or your camera network to the Site Gateway.
Site Gateway (SG1) supports up to 25 Samsara or third-party camera streams.
There are two primary Sites Deployment Options:
-
If your cameras and Site Gateway are both on the same corporate network, you can detect and receive information about cameras over that network. Therefore you do not need to plug them in directly into the Site Gateway.
-
If your cameras are on a separate network, connect cameras using one of the following options:
-
Set up the Site Gateway to act as an interface that communicates with the camera network: Plug one end of a second Ethernet cable (not provided) into the bottom LAN port (SG1-G) or port 1 on the 8-port switch (SG1x) on the Site Gateway and plug the other end to a port on your camera network switch.
-
Set up the Site Gateway to act as a configurable router. In this deployment, you set up a new camera network separate from the corporate network, where the Site Gateway acts as a DHCP server. On an SG1-G, you connect your cameras to a separate network switch and connect that to the bottom LAN port on the Site Gateway. On an SG1x, you connect cameras directly to the 8-port switch of the Site Gateway but can also cascade an additional network switch to add additional cameras.
-
By default, both deployments will use DHCP to obtain IP addresses, however, you can configure static IP address assignment later when you configure the settings for the Site Gateway.
