Use this checklist to prepare for installing the Site Gateway.
-
Activate the Site Gateway from the Samsara dashboard
Locate serial number located on the Site Gateway box, visit http://samsara.com/activate, and follow the instructions.
-
Choose your desired deployment
Before deciding on a deployment method, it is recommended to consult with your network administrator to learn more about your network setup and any required permissions. At a minimum, you must enable outbound traffic over port 443 (TLS) and port 123 (NTP) and connect the Site Gateway to a network switch that provides Internet over 443 (TLS).
-
Find a suitable location for the Site Gateway in a server room or rack near an existing network switch
The Site Gateway does not need to be rack mounted.
-
Gather all account credentials for third-party cameras
Samsara supports third-party cameras capable of H.264 encoding and streaming over the Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP). Before you can complete the setup of third-party cameras, you must obtain the usernames and passwords used to authenticate to the cameras. The credentials are required for authentication and to display video streams from the Samsara dashboard. If you are not able to locate the credentials for a camera, your camera vendor or manual should provide you with information on the factory reset process required to assign new credentials.
-
(Optional) Enable Open Network Video Interface Forum (ONVIF) if available on third-party cameras
This protocol enables different third-party cameras from different vendors to operate together. In addition, ONVIF provides accurate and reliable recovery of camera information such as RTSP streams, and make and model. If you do not enable ONVIF on your cameras and Samsara cannot detect the camera make and model during discovery, you must supply the RTSP stream URL during the configuration of each camera. To enable ONVIF, consult the camera manual or contact the camera vendor for instructions.
