Trailer Axle Load displays the total axle weight of a trailer while it is in operation. This helps fleets manage weight compliance and monitor cargo status on each trip. Axle load is calculated using pressure information from the EBS system of a trailer and is displayed in the Samsara dashboard. You can also configure overweight and underweight alerts to receive notifications when a trailer is outside the expected weight range.
Before configuring Trailer Axle Load, confirm that you have the following trailer and Samsara hardware configurations:
- Trailer with compatible EBS system: Knorr-Bremse, Haldex, or Wabco
- EBS CAN support
- AG53 Asset Gateway with BEBS cable set
Important
To ensure accurate readings, use a certified weight scale to verify the EBS load-sensing function of the trailer.
After your trailer is connected, Trailer Axle Load data will automatically appear in the Readings graph for that asset. You can view axle load readings by following this workflow:
-
From the Samsara dashboard, navigate to Overview (
) > Assets > Trailers.
-
Select a trailer from the list of assets to open the asset details page.
-
Click Graph data at the top right of the asset details page and select Readings from the list to open the Readings graph.
-
Click the Readings button at the top left of the graph area and select Trailer Axle Load from the list.
-
Review the axle load data.
By default, the graph displays data from Today. You can use the date selector to view axle weight readings from a different day or time range.
You can also hover over the Readings graph to see detailed axle weight readings at different locations in the trip.
You can receive alerts for underweight or overweight trailers by creating a new alert. Select the Asset Readings trigger and use Trailer Axle Load as the alert condition.
