The powered Asset Gateway (AG), such as the AG26 or AG46P, is ideal for monitoring dry-van and refrigerated trailers, heavy equipment, and high-value mobile assets. It features a waterproof and ruggedized enclosure, a variety of sensor and interface accessories, and multiple built-in power options. The powered AG enables improved operating efficiency, theft recovery, and regulatory compliance.
For reefer installations, see AG26 Reefer Compatibility and Cable Selection.

Before you install your gateway, first Activate the Device in the Samsara dashboard. Review the Powered Asset Cable Matrix (Dry-Trailers) for the appropriate cable for your configuration, then, perform the installation for your organization:
When you install an AG26/46P on a dry trailer, you utilize the power interface from the pulling or towing vehicle using a 7-way cable which enables the AG26/46P to function in real time and operates in battery-saving mode when not connected to tractor power. Review the Powered Asset Cable Matrix (Dry-Trailers) to ensure you obtain the appropriate cable for your configuration.

To install the AG26/46P on a dry trailer:
-
Activate the device in your dashboard if you have not already done so.
-
Select the desired mounting location and clean thoroughly with a cleaning wipe.
-
Attach mounting plate with adhesive strips. (Optional) Secure with 4 self-tapping screws.
-
Mount the asset gateway onto a mounting plate with 4 flat-end screws.
-
Plug the 7-way cable into the AG and twist to lock.
-
Run the length of the cable to the 7-way connector and use the zip ties to fasten the cable to the trailer.
-
Connect the other end of the cable to the 7-way connector:
-
Connect the blue wire (brakes) to 12-24 V
-
Connect the white wire (ground) to negative
-
Connect the brown wire (head/tail lights) to 12-24 V
-
-
The light on the asset gateway turns on for 30 seconds if the connection is successful. If the light does not turn on, reseat the cable on both ends and observe the light.
-
For PressurePro installation, connect the 4-pin connector on the 7-way cable to the mating 4-pin connector on the PressurePro Gateway.
-
Manage the trailer from the Samsara dashboard.
Note
If you see a cable error when installing the AG with the installer app, disconnect the cable from both the trailer and the gateway. Then reinstall the cable on both the trailer and the AG and ensure the cable is correctly aligned with the 7-way connector and securely locked onto the gateway.
When you install an AG26/46P on a powered asset, you utilize the power interface from the asset using the powered asset cable harness with power and aux inputs (for engine hours). When you connect the asset tracking gateway to power, it will operate in real time. When power is not available form the asset, the asset tracking gateway will run off the internal battery in power-saving mode. The asset tracking gateway will function on an internal battery for up to three months.
Review the Powered Asset Cable Matrix (Dry-Trailers) to ensure you obtain the appropriate cable for your configuration.
To install the AG26/46P on a powered asset:
-
Activate the device in your dashboard if you have not already done so.
-
Choose a location for installation depending on asset type and use case. To reduce theft and detection, secure in an inconspicuous location inside the engine compartment.
-
Attach the mounting plate using adhesive and the four provided self-tapping screws.
-
Secure the AG26/46P to the mounting plate using the four provided flat-end screws.
-
Plug the cable into the asset tracking gateway and twist to secure.
-
Connect the other end of the cable to power:
-
Use the CBL-AG-A9PIN, CBL-AG-ACT9, or CBL-AG-ACT14 cables. Connect the cable end to the CAN bus tied to the ECU.
OR
-
Use the CBL-AG-APWR cable connection to draw full power from the equipment battery when the equipment is running. This cable switches to the AG26/46P's own internal battery when the activation signal is off.
Important
Do not modify the CBL-AG-APWR cable unless explicitly instructed by Samsara to do so. Modification can cause the AG to remain continuously powered which may drain the asset battery.
-
Connect the red Power wire to the continuous 12-24VDC power source (for example a battery positive terminal).
-
Connect the black Ground wire to the ground (for example a negative battery terminal).
-
Connect the yellow Ignition wire to the switched power source or any 12DVC signal on the equipment. If the yellow wire is too short, extend it using the accessory wire.
When the ignition is off, the relay prevents vehicle power drain.
-
Configure the Auxiliary input in the gateway settings to enable Samsara to track engine hours.
Engine hours start counting when a non-zero value is entered in Engine Hours from the device settings.
-
The LED on the asset gateway illuminates when activated.
-
-
(Optional) Use the provided zip ties to ensure that the cable does not obstruct activity.
-
Manage the trailer from the Samsara dashboard.
Note
If you see a cable error when installing the AG with the installer app, disconnect the cable from both the trailer and the gateway. Reinstall the cable on both the asset and the gateway and ensure the cable is correctly locked into the CAN bus port and securely locked onto the gateway.
The following table summarizes the install cable required for dry-trailer and powered asset configurations. For installation requirements of a reefer configuration, see AG26 Reefer Compatibility and Cable Selection.
