For powered Asset Gateways (AGs) connected to trailers or equipment, odometer values can be manually entered in the Samsara dashboard for maintenance tracking. Manually set odometer values will automatically update as GPS trip data is collected.
For the AG52 and AG53 models, odometer accumulation can be disabled for specific asset types. To do this, manually set the odometer value to 0 in the dashboard. This prevents further automatic updates.
To manually input an odometer reading for a trailer or equipment asset:
-
From the Samsara dashboard, select Overview (
) > Assets.
-
Choose either Trailers or Equipment, depending on the asset type.
-
Locate the asset in the list or use the search bar to narrow the results.
-
On the asset row, select the more actions ( ••• ) menu > Settings.
-
In the Odometer section, select Edit.
-
Enter the mileage for the asset and Save to apply the changes.
The updated odometer reading is displayed in the asset details and continues to increment based on GPS trip data.
For supported trailers, odometer readings are reported automatically from the trailer’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU) within the Electronic Braking System (EBS). These readings can be used for mileage-based maintenance tracking without requiring manual odometer entry.
When an ECU-based odometer is available, the dashboard displays the odometer value with the label (ECU) to distinguish it from GPS-based odometer readings.
Automatic ECU-based odometer readings are available only under the following conditions:
-
The asset is a trailer located in EMEA.
-
The trailer is equipped with a compatible Knorr, Haldex, or Wabco Electronic Braking System (EBS).
-
The trailer is connected using AG53 with supported EBS cables (AG52 and other AGs are not supported).
-
The asset is associated with LIC-TRLR-PREM.
If these conditions are not met, odometer values must be entered manually and continue to update based on GPS trip data.
