If you review an event in the Driver Coaching Workflow that displays good driving behavior, you can use the Samsara dashboard to track the recognition of the behavior. By applying a Defensive Driving Label and marking events with a coaching status, you can track the reinforcement of positive behaviors from the Samsara dashboard. Events with a status of Reviewed, Needs Recognition, or Recognized all contribute to the Safety Score.
Note
To update the coaching status, you must be assigned a Full Admin role or a custom role with both the Recognition permissions and Safety > Triage Safety Event permission.
For more information on the effect of coaching status on the Safety Inbox workflow, see Coaching Statuses.
When a safety event is detected, Samsara automatically applies a behavior Safety Event Label to the event and may impact the safety score. For more information about how the event status influences the safety score, see Coaching Statuses.
If you determine that the safety event demonstrates good defensive driving behavior, you can apply a Defensive Driving label. Defensive Driving labels now impact the Safety Score when paired with the appropriate recognition status. Choose the appropriate workflow for the desired impact to the Safety Score:
To mark the completion of Driver Recognition in the Samsara dashboard and positively impact the driver Safety Score, use the following workflow:
-
If you have not already done so, enable and configure the Defensive Driving Safety Score. For more information, see Safety Score Weights and Configuration.
-
Locate the event from the Safety Inbox (Safety (
) > Safety Inbox). Search events to quickly locate an event by driver or vehicle name, or use Tags or the date range filter to narrow the scope of the results.
-
Select the event to view the event details and confirm the event is assigned to the appropriate driver. Reassign the event, if necessary.
-
Click + ADD > Defensive Driving to apply the label to the safety event.
-
To remove a behavior from the event and any associated negative impact to the safety score, click remove ( X ) on the harsh event label.
-
After the driver receives recognition, update the event status to Reviewed, Needs Recognition, or Recognized. All three statuses now contribute to the Safety Score.
These events will display in the All Events report in the Safety Inbox.
While Defensive Driving events with recognition statuses contribute to the Safety Score, you can still use event status updates primarily for tracking recognition workflows without modifying the event labels themselves.
-
Locate the event from the Safety Inbox (Safety (
) > Safety Inbox). Search events to quickly locate an event by driver or vehicle name, or use Tags or the date range filter to narrow the scope of the results.
-
Select the event to view the event details and confirm the event is assigned to the appropriate driver. Reassign the event, if necessary.
-
If you would like to track the recognition of the event for your own records, from the event status menu, select Needs Recognition.
-
After the driver receives recognition, update the event status to Recognized. These events will display in the All Events report in the Safety Inbox.
-
To view events in Needs Recognition or Recognized status, filter the status you want to view from the All Events report in the Safety Inbox.
