To track trailer or vehicle inspections and submit findings, you can create pre-trip and post-trip Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIRs) using DVIR 2.0 in the Samsara Driver App. DVIR 2.0 supports Offline Mode, so you can complete and save the full inspection without connectivity, and the DVIR will sync when your device is back online.
Note
To get the best DVIR 2.0 experience, ensure you're updated to version 2542.100+ of the Samsara Driver App.
If you're are on an older version of the app, you will see two DVIR tiles and you need to update the Samsara Driver App.
As DVIRs are part of your start of day or end of day workflow, you have a specific amount of time customized by your administrator to complete your DVIR before it's classified as missing. The time varies by organization, so to find out how much time you have to complete your DVIRs, contact your administrator.
If you're unsure if you're using DVIR 2.0 or the legacy DVIR experience, contact your administrator.
To view or complete a DVIR in DVIR 2.0, perform the following workflow:
-
Select the vehicle or trailer that requires a DVIR.
-
From the Samsara Driver App home screen, tap the DVIR tile.
-
Tap Create DVIR.
-
For HOS tracking, if your current status is Off Duty, you will be prompted to Go On Duty before beginning your DVIR.
-
Complete the asset details, including vehicle location and identifying information.
-
Choose the inspection type (Pre-Trip or Post-Trip).
-
Inspect your vehicle for any defects.
-
At a minimum, complete all Required fields.
Any photos uploaded must be under an hour old, and must match what is being asked for. For example, if your DVIR requires you to upload a photo of the passenger side photo, it must be the passenger side photo or the form will flag it as an error.
To report an issue or damage to the vehicle, select the applicable defects and enter a description and optional photo.
You can dictate defect details with Voice-to-Text Defect Capture instead of manual typing.
-
If there are unresolved Previous Defects, inspect the defect on the vehicle and select the defect to resolve the issue or leave deselected if the defect remains unresolved.
Note
If your carrier or mechanic has resolved a previous DVIR, the Samsara Driver App prompts you to certify whether or not the defects have been resolved.
-
Tap Perform Inspection to document the inspected areas of the vehicle. Tap inspection pass (
) or inspection fail (
).
-
Specify the safety status for your vehicle or trailer (Safe to drive or Unsafe) and tap Next.
-
To complete the inspection and submit your fingers, tap Sign and Submit.
You must be physically close to the vehicle or trailer to submit the DVIR.
