Note
Before you can claim this exemption, your administrator must enable the setting. See Fleet Adverse Driving Exemptions for more information.
If you experience unexpected conditions such as severe weather, road closures, or other emergencies, you may be eligible to claim an Adverse Driving Exemption in the Samsara Driver App. This exemption extends your Drive and Total Shift time limits by two hours. Adverse Driving Exemptions are available only in the United States and Canada, and eligibility depends on your region’s regulations.
You can claim this exemption for your current shift directly in the Samsara Driver App. Depending on your region and organization settings, you can claim either Adverse Driving (USA) or Adverse Driving (Canada).
Use this workflow after you open your daily log and reach the Exemptions section.
-
Select Adverse Driving (USA) or Adverse Driving (Canada).
-
Complete the claim and select the date and time the exemption applies to using Apply for time. That time is stored with the claim so your log shows which part of the day the exemption applies to.
-
In most cases, select the current time.
-
The time must fall within the shift the exemption applies to.
-
To tie the claim to an earlier shift, select a time that falls within that shift.
-
If you have two shifts on the same calendar day, select a time within the shift you want the exemption to cover.
Note
For Adverse Driving (Canada), you can use the time picker to claim the exemption for a past shift when that situation applies.
-
-
When your entries are complete, Certify and submit your daily log.
Note
The claim adds an Adverse Driving remark to your log. Use Add Remark only when your carrier needs additional detail beyond that standard remark.
After you claim this exemption, your Drive and Total Shift Hours of Service (HoS) dials automatically increase by two hours. Your Daily Log will also include an Adverse Driving remark for that shift.
