Exemptions in the Samsara Driver App let you adjust your Hours of Service (HoS) logs when special circumstances apply, such as adverse driving conditions or utility service vehicle use.
When you claim an exemption, you can also add a remark that is saved in your log and data file. These remarks are visible to both fleet administrators and inspection officers. Some exemptions, like the Utility Service Vehicle Exemption, automatically generate a remark for you, so you do not need to add one manually.
To claim an exemption, follow this workflow:

In the Samsara Driver App, tap the HoS tile to view the count status of a drive.

Select Daily Log.

Scroll down on the driver daily log to find the Exemptions section. Tap the exemption you want to claim.

If needed, Add Remark and enter an explanation for the exemption.

Claim the exemption.

Certify and Submit your log.
