Smart Maps Overlays enhance fleet safety by providing real-time visibility into weather conditions directly on the Samsara Driver App. This feature helps fleet managers identify environmental risks, plan safer routes, and minimize weather-related hazards.
The Weather Forecast Overlay displays current and forecasted weather patterns using data from the Weather Channel API. It provides detailed information such as wind speed, snow, and precipitation, helping fleet managers anticipate conditions that could impact driving safety. This overlay is available for all regions.
Additional capabilities—such as viewing live StreetSense images and precipitation type directly from the map—are available for fleets in the United States, Canada, Mexico, United Kingdom, and Ireland with supported enterprise license:

The Weather Overlay displays current and forecasted weather conditions on the map. Weather information updates in real-time.
To apply this overlay:

Open the Fleet Overview page on your Samsara dashboard.

Click Map Options in the top-right corner of the dashboard.

Select Weather from the dropdown menu.

Click the triangular Play button at the bottom of the map to view an animated weather forecast.

Use the Radar dropdown menu to select specific weather details, such as wind speed, snow, or temperature.

(Supported enterprise licenses only) Click into a radar region to navigate to the same detail page as Public Alerts with similar radar-focused functionality.
You can also hover over an area to view live StreetSense images and the type of precipitation.
