Each software license includes access to the Samsara software, associated hardware devices (if applicable), and ongoing aspects of the Samsara service such as 24/7 technical support, cellular data connectivity (for devices with cellular capabilities), Samsara cloud-hosted software (Samsara dashboard) historical data storage, firmware upgrades, and ongoing software feature releases and bug fixes.
Licenses are simple, transparent, and all-inclusive, without hidden fees.
Note
Accessories and applications—such as the Samsara Fleet App, the Samsara Driver App, and Driver ID tokens—do not require a separate license.
Your Samsara deployment should have only as many devices active in the dashboard as associated with the Samsara software licenses purchased. Software licenses are sold in 1, 3, 5, and 7-year license terms per associated hardware device and are required for all hardware devices, including but not limited to Vehicle Gateways (VGs), CM-series cameras, monitors, and sensors. The Samsara software license term begins on the day Samsara activates the Samsara software license. When activation is complete, Samsara provides you with a claim number and access to the hosted software. Licenses are not transferable between customer accounts.
Note
Replacement devices and gateways do not need an additional license. However, you must deactivate the old device before you activate the replacement. See Unpair a Gateway from a Vehicle for more information on deactivating devices.
When you add additional licenses to your contract, the contract type will determine whether the contract end date is adjusted. Please reach out to your account manager to verify your account type and contract end date.

The availability, timeliness, accuracy, and performance of the Products can be affected by external factors, such as: the accuracy and quality of the data you input; environmental conditions (like weather or GPS interference); proper installation of the Products; the timeliness, accuracy, and quality of services or data provided by third parties; and the condition of your vehicles or assets. External factors such as those listed above can also introduce errors or inaccuracies in the reports, analytics, results, or other outcomes from the Products.

Information may not be provided in real-time due to data processing needs, system limitations, network connectivity, unexpected system downtime, or other external factors. Complex queries or analyzing large datasets may require processing time and slow the responsiveness of the Products.

Some Product features may depend on services or data from third-party providers and/or require subscriptions from those third parties, custom integrations, or the purchase of additional Samsara software licenses.

The Products may not operate in accordance with their intended functionality at all times, particularly with respect to an initial Product launch or as a result of subsequent updates and changes (such as performance improvements, security enhancements, new features, modifications based on user feedback, or changes due to the depreciation or evolution of underlying technologies).

Product features designated as "Beta," "Pilot," "Early Access," or similar are still under development and are not yet fully polished. Such features are provided for testing and feedback purposes and may not function as expected, including inconsistent performance and potential delays.
Capitalized terms used but not otherwise defined herein will have the meaning given to them in the Terms of Service regardless of your contract with Samsara.
All Samsara hardware needs a license to function. The number of devices of a given product family cannot exceed the number of your associated Samsara software licenses (for example, if you have purchased 100 VG Samsara software licenses, you can have up to 100 VG-series gateway devices in your organization). If you do not have a license or if the license expires, your gateways and sensors will not function. See License Renewal for more information on how to renew your license.
